Unhappy ATF Treatment - Any hope before a rebuild?

Do you think that maybe, by some slight chance, that the ATF treatment will help my car - maybe loosen up some frozen apex seal springs?? I'm going to try it tomorrow and let it sit overnight.

what are the symptoms of your engine?
there is always a possibility of it working, and the **** is cheap enough, so give it a try..

with the shaking it sounds like the apex seal may be broke,or just badly worn,

ah well atf it,

how could it hurt???

$4.00 or less

go down some post, maybe on page 2 and look for my pics and complete how to.

ATF generally only "fixes" engines that have been sitting for a very long time, like in a junkyard, or engines that have an excess of carbon buildup due to improper tuning or generally not driving the car hard (which is often why they end up in the junkyard). If the engine has the symptoms of a blown apex seal, it most likely DOES have a blown apex seal.

This is sort of along the same lines: My 83 has 99k on it and seems to still run pretty strong. Should I try the ATF treatment anyway to see if it would make it run any better? Also does ATF screw up your cat? Anyway just wondering. Peace

I would strongly suggest disconnecting your cat before doing the ATF trick. If you use too much you can melt the thing down. Ask me how I know.

OK I'll bite; how do you know? Anyway, my car seems to run fine but there is always room for improvment, that's why I asked. Thanks Peace

with your miles, "99,000" i would do it more for piece of mind rather then looking for hp gains,

in my book its definetly considered general maintnance at 100,000 miles,

go for it,
but remove that cat

Yea, when I said improvement I meant reliability, smoothness, etc not HP. I'd assume the HP gains would probably be minimal anyway. The thing I'm afraid of is destroying the cat and entire exhaust system in the process of removing it to do this. Hmmm the letters RB are coming to me.......
Peace
