Approx Horsepower Question

I have a 1983 RX7 with a sound non ported engine and I'm wondering how much horsepower its running with the following mods? I have a Sterling Nikki, K&N filter, Accel Square super coils, NGK wires, and I'm having the cats removed and replaced with a straight pipe leading to a newer stock muffler.

Thanks

A little above stock. With the cats removed about 10HP more.

If your concern is hp, the first/best mod is headers and a freer flowing exhaust. Which the Stock Muffler isn't. It's also pricey, go with the Racing Beat or other muffler.

That Sterling won't do very much good without upgrading the ENTIRE exhaust first. You can put as big of a carb as you want on there but if the air going in has to fight its way out your not going to make much power. With a decent exhaust and tuning you should see around 135 at the wheels.

+1 on what orion just said.

With the mods in my signature I posted 134 whp on a dynojet.

A porting job to match a larger exhaust would be the next step.

^ Absolutely. I just put a streetported engine in with my Sterling (13B now), and it screams and pulls beautifully, and I haven't even tuned it or installed the MSD and new coils yet. Hopefully I'll have it back roadworthy and on the dyno in the spring before DGRR.

back in the day the pro7 cars, stock engine/carb/exhaust manifold/2.5" exhaust would do 112-116 rwhp. ignition timing had to be stock, but you could play with the carb jetting.

remove the stock exhaust manifold, and install headers (IT trim), and it would do 125.
