Question antifreeze leak question.

hello, what is the problem called when you have antifreeze leaking out from around the intake manifold? and how hard is it to fix? thanks!

well you have to pull it off, and change the two rubber O rings. take the used O ring to the auto parts store and get to new ones. the one at the auto parts store are a little bigger but will work just fine.

the o-rings are in place because coolant runs through the intake manifold for accelerated warmup.

You can circumnavigate having any sort of issues with those pesky O-rings by picking up 2 20mm freeze plugs from your auto parts store.
Just gently yet firmly drive them flush into the end of the water passage, and WALLAH!! no more coolant in your intake.... I still replace to O-rings just as a double measure it ensure there are no leaks.....

If you do decide to block coolant flow, you must also block the ACV port. If you don't, hot exhaust will heat up your manifold. It's a little rectangular port below the two intermediate ports. I like Quicksteel in the engine side because you can swap to any manifold, even the '79 style. Otherwise the manifold side is a little easier to deal with. You must clean the metal really well because of carbon and oil deposits.
