Alternator wiring?

1984 rx7 with 12a

I turned in an alternator that had a wire soldiered inside it where the 3 diodes are. The man at AutoZone was nice and pulled my busted one apart to see if I could get it.
I installed new alternator yesterday and everything seems to be working great. Went to start her just a bit ago starts just fine. Looked through my electrical section of the Hanes guide I have and it definatly was a mod. I used to have fog lights when the body kit was attached( front end piece pulled off by those nasty grey cement parking ? Things.)

extra wire

I have an extra wire that has nothing to plug in now. It is smaller than the 10 gage coming off the b post. I think maybe a 14 gage. Im curious if any one knows what kinds of things couldbe hooked up into an alternator like that.

It looks like it could possibly be going down towards my starter..... I would have to jack her up to look which isn't a problem I have the equipment.

That's not an alternator wire.

That wire either goes in the trans bundle or passenger firewall bundle. Disconnect the BIG orange connector from the passenger firewall connector and try ohming out the wire. Put you multimeter on the ohm or continuity setting then place one lead in that wire connector and touch the other lead to each lead on the big orange connector. The meter will eighter show zero ohms or buzz if it has a continuity checker. A test light would also work.

Then document theplace on the big orange connector and look it up in the factory shop manual.

Thanks ^^ I will do that continuity check in the morning and post my results.
Have any clue why someone would have soldered a wire leading from this loose wire to a component inside the old alternator?

Not sure. There are only two factory connections on the alt. The one that goes to the fusable link on the tower and the other being the white two prong plug in your pic. It could be from the noise capacitor I guess. The factory capacitor is mounted via one bolt on the top trans inspection plate but that connector is a bullet connector.

Engine run sense for an anti-theft system or a remote start system.

I finished some of my homework. The does indeed connect to the big orange connector. I found a reading

The top right of the group of four on the left gave a reading

Factory manuals.... ugh

So as the second part of my homework i'm having a little trouble. I can't even seem to find the orange connector among all of these wiring diagrams.
What I do know is the wire is a black with green stripe so BG. and also it doesn't seem to be important because I've been driving for a couple weeks without incident to my charging system ( I hope) At least nothing that's left me stranded at an outback steakhouse LOL!

I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me figure this out!

Should I just tape up the wire and tuck it somewhere?
