Alternator replacement

I'm trying to replace the dead stock alternator on my '79, hopefully with a T2 alt...(or an 81+)
Does anyone know if this will work?

I searched around and I found that sketched diagram, but the 79/80 alternators have a 4 pin connecter as opposed to a 2 pin on the rest of the rx7's..(only 3 wires actually go to the connector)
Does anyone know if this can be converted, and if so, which wires to which pins?

thanks alot

But here's the informative thread on the

It's the wire color codes that are important. You'll first have to disable the external regulator and then you can go to the 2 wire system...here's the ulti-thread on the subject....

The Third gens have serpantine belts, whereas the 1st and 2nd gens have "V" belts. It is NOT bolt on.

You would have to change the pulley, and the plug is different.
