Alternator question, how do you wire it to work?
Alternator question, how do you wire it to work?
Okay, I'm re-wiring the whole car. On the alternator, I dont understand the wiring diagram in the repair manual... what wires must be run to where for the alternator to function properly? I know where the big positive cable has to go, but where to the wires in the other connectors have to go?
Thanks for any help you can provide

hmm, that thread really didnt explain where the wires GO to. Like their end destination.
Where do those wires END UP? I think C is a plug, but I didnt check, so if I'm being an idiot let me know

it shows it connecting to that other connector, which is pretty meaningless considering the car no longer has that other connector.
It also has no colored wires there to follow.

So there is no wiring harness at all...the two connectors represent the two types you will find in the back. One or the other is what you have in back. You need to get that connector before anything else can be done.

Found it in the repair manual, looks like wire A from my picture has to go to the ignition switch, and that should be all she needs. Wire B just goes to warning lights, and wire C seems to be unused. I'll try it out and let y'all know
I've been running my car without the plug in the Alt. for the past year without much problem. The strang thing is that the Alt. will not charge unless it's warm and at higher than idle due to the pully size.
Raptor13x, I'm not sure it's possible to run your alt without a battery somewhere in the system. It needs 12 volts to kick-start the field into charging. You could probably get by with a lightweight motorcyle battery.
I've got that same 55 amp alt and I've never used connector C.
rotor vs. piston, I also ran mine (55 amp alt) without the T shaped connector for a while. It would only start charging when I would rev it up to a certain RPM. After that, it would charge at idle. I'm running stock pullies. It has something to do with closing the circuit of the field I think. Infact, bugs can be upgraded from generators to alts that behave the same as our alts without the T connector hooked up. Just rev it a little after startup and you're good.
Heh, I've got your one wire alternator right here!
