Alternator Power

Seeing as how my lights seems to dim at anything below 2000rpm, and the alternator does seem to make a little noise, I was wondering, are there any kind of upgrades I can put on in this respect? I was planning on eventually adding an amplifier, so I'm assuming the stock alt will not cut it if it can't handle just a regular charge. What can I do to improve the voltage coming from the alternator?

Alright, where do I find the output rating? Who makes an alternator with higher output than stock?

All cars run on 12-14 Volts.

Voltage does not need improvement, you need more current (Amps).

Imagine electricity as it is water...

We've gotta wash your car... Okay, so we need a certain pressure of water...

Too little pressure and you won't be able to spray the water on your car...

However, turn a huge pressure washer on your car, and damn... You've got no paint...

Voltage is pressure... The Right ammount is necessary.

So... Lets see, we've got some decent pressure... What're we gonna put this water in?

Soda can? Nah.. That wont do...

Swimming pool? That'll work, but it is kinda large...

5 gal Bucket... Perfect...

Volume (Size) is Amps... Too little is no good, too much doesn't matter.

Okay, so let's say you have a lot of water on reserve from the swimming pool. You're spraying with the hose... First of all you need the right hose for the volume of water... So what happens if you use too thin a hose and demand a lot of water... It'll burst... Hence:

If you use too thin a wire, it'll burn. Use the correct wire for your application. Fuses are purposefully thin to limit flow. If too much power is demanded. (Short circuit) they are supposed to burn.
