alternator

i have been searching this site on how to convert my 79 rx-7s alternator with external regulator but kind find one. can some1 guide me on how to do it. im thinking of using the turbo II with 80amps alternator. im running a 12-a sp with 48 ida. i read somewhere that a wire goes to a choke relay but my car no longer has the choke.

Dunno about a 79, but the wire that goes from the alt to the choke/check relay. Even tho called the choke/check relay doesnt have anything to do with the choke... It only puts the lights out on the dash when the alt begins charging

There are a few threads up right now about swapping alternators. The one I started a few weeks ago got pretty in depth, it should still be up here somewhere. Check it out, it should answer your questions. Later

The '80 chassis had gone to internal regulator, so I don't know if the thread will help him with the '79 wire loom and external regulator set-up. Here it is, anyway...

'89-'91 alt into '80 wireloom and chassis...

You might want to call Rotary Performance in Garland or the mazdatrix people to see what is involved as far as converting external reg systems to internal. I've got literature on how to do it with GM alternators but nothing for Mazdas
