Ok, heres the scoop. last night i was driving and my alternator and water pump pulleys came off. I put em back on, let it cool off and resumed driving. the alternator pulley then broke. the car backfired a few times, and then died. I had it towed home and ive changed the belts now, but when i rev it up a little, it makes a very strange noise. it almost sounds like gurgling or something. does anyone know what this is? its coming from the pasenger side. i dont know what to make of it, but im afraid to drive it. I really hope its nothing big. ive got no money to fix it right now...
Could still be warped rotor, at low rpm the air may not be escaping, but once the rpms get higher so does the pressure and it could escape. Just a though thou. U check for any fluid leaks or have a friend rev if for u?
hottest it got was 100 degrees. ive checked for leaks and cant find and except for a small leak in the rad hose where it meets the rad. ive been fighting this since i put in the temp control for my efan. when i popped the hood last night there was some antifreze on the intake. im not sure what to make of it. its fixed now, just had to fuss with the butal tape a little.

probably warped something. not good my friend. been there done that. my belt shredded off once and it started to overheat as i was driving so i quickly turned off the car and coasted as far as i could. just to find out that internaly i sprung a coolant leak. so i just got a second engine.
What shape is the water pump in? If it's toast you'll likely see some coolant seeping from the "weep hole," located at the bottom of the pump.
If it is seizing at certain rpms it will wreck the belt and cause overheating.
remove the belt from the water pump pulley and then spin the pump by hand. If operation is less than smooth, or if coolant is leaking from it even a little, you've probably found your problem.
You'll need to remove the four or five bolts holding the pump on, being careful to remember which bolts had shims under them, their exact location and length, and to not mix them up.
BTW, DO NOT remove the entire pump body (the part that includes the coolant hose connections). Only remove the pump itself. Once the bolts are removed it should come off quite easily since the only thing holding it will be the gasket, which must be replaced anyway.
The gasket is available from Mazda, as is the replacement pump. But if you can find a good used pump somewhere you'll probably save a few bucks because Mazda is notorious for their over-priced parts.
The whole re and re is doable in 1/2 an hour.
