Again, fixed lamps

playing around with vaccumforming inner housings with polycarbonate outer lenses that match the stock bucket lid. The housings would accept sealed HID projectors, but trying to find similar halogen projectors for those who want a lower-cost option.

how many are interested in real HID? How many are interested in projector style fixed lamps? Just in general terms, mind - no commitments required. I find the devil is in the details with these projects and if ift/finish doesn't work out I'd rather scrap it than create crap. My cupholder redux languished as I tried to find workable materials that wouldn't warp (and vacuumforming wasn't an option due to the fettling involved driving u pthe cost to rediculous prices for cupholder units) but recently found a supplier of injection molded cupholder drawers to fit the metal unit.

I don't wanna make something no one wants due to cost. Maybe I could make the prototype, then 'open source' it so CF peeps could make CF versions of the inner housings, etc. Decentralize production so a number of us could offer components as options, and an individual wanting fixed lamps could buy only what they can't make themselves, or mix and match components from various forum members - projectors/aiming assemblies from me, CF inners from CF experts (13Beef, I'm looking @ you), outer lenses from whomsoever can make the clearest version for the lowest cost (Dan Atkins?), etc.. After all, this is about providing us all with cool stuff, not about 1 person making a buck. Thoughts?

I'd be in. Sounds like a really good concept. I say build a prototype and see what kind of reaction is gets. Even if you could just build the buckets and clear covers I think it would be okay

I am extremely interested. I would mostly be interested in buying what I cannot make myself; the outer lense and light bucket ... actually I would be interested in buying everything if the price is right. Any ideas as to a cost? probally to early to tell, but I hope it would be at least half as much as that racing company up in Canada

cheaper for a reason - putting HID bulbs into halogen reflectors gives you a completely crappy beam pattern that creates glare for oncoming traffic

I'm interested very much. I dont feel a need for a REAL HID kit, but projectors would be nice in there. Mostly I'm looking forward to the bucket/lid.

I would be interested if there was a flushmount option, I really don't think flipups would look right in such a wide car. And hopefully the cupholders/cd din buckets will be done soon, still waiting on mine!

this design would be flush-mount only, not sleepy eye. The goal is to eliminate the weight and complexity of flip-up actuators and allow you to drive with proper lighting without making the car aerodynamically 'ugly'. Flip-ups were the only stylish option when DOT required one of a very few sealed beam lamps to be installed, but now that composites are permitted flip-ups are obsolete.

I was thinking of styling the bezels (the metal rings immediately around the projectors)similar to the Dodge showcar lights (on the Challenger concept, I believe) shown here photoshopped onto a D...

The sketches so far have an outer bixenon (or halogen) projector with a 'dummy' inner actually functioning as a turn signal. The 4" height allows for the flat-topped bezels and the 'brow' look for a more aggressive appearance, as the stock front-to-back rise on SAs/FBs is 5".
