Advise on checking out a JY SE, please!

There is a brown SE in a junkyard I noticed a few months ago. Wasn't interested then, I was fresh into my newly acquired GSL. Anyway, the guy said I could not rob parts off it, as he wasn't sure yet what to do with it. It seemed in good shape outside, interior looked good too, as I recall. He said the alternator had literally burned up under the hood. That may or may not be all thats wrong with it, anyway I'm gonna take a look-see next week. Other that the obvious rust inspection (I now consider myself an expert in that area, thanks to this forum) is there any way I can verify the condition of the engine, assuming no way to start it? It's been sitting for months, so engine may be carbon-locked?
SE's are getting so rare, I'd love to grab one. What would y'all do? The guy said he'd take "what he's got in it" don't know what that is yet.
Thanks for the tips!

Y'know, you're probably right, but I've done about everything to that GSL, it's damn near perfect except for oxidized paint.
Guess I'm just bored and want something else to piddle with.
Anyone second the opinion of 85rx7GS?

i usually encourage people to stay away from cars that have fires (especially electrical ones) unless you're building a flat-out racer, in which case you'd be stripping it to bone anyways. i know they can be fixed, because i've seen it done, but i just have pet peeve with cars and electrical problems.
not only might it turn out to be a pain in the ***, it may also be a modern-day christine ...
you could buy it to scrap, rape, pillage and pilfer (sp?) the hard parts if you can, but i'd say if you want an SE to drive, keep looking ...

if its got a straight body and nice interior buy it up. rust free shell with nice interior is the hardest part about building an fb. you can always rebuild if it doesnt run. besides, what kind of 1st gen fan are you if you onl own one? i've got 2 right now and get my third next week
