Add Coolant Light?!

My add coolant light started coming on on my 85 GSL. It will come on when I stop sometimes, and sometimes when I start it it stays on until I start moving.

Strange, it's got plenty of coolant.

I'd suspect the water pump but when I pull the cap I can tell the water is circulating.

Also the temp gauge never gets past 1/4 of the way, and I drive her hard!

I figure that all of this means the water pump is good, nd I just have a bad sensor... Right?

Not sure if this relates, but my Pontiac (Gotta have something with 4 seats ) had the same problem.. Ended up being an air bubble in the system. I Jacked up the front end to make the radiator the highest part in the system and then could fill the bubble with coolant.. no more low coolant indicator..

worth a shot?

Yea, my MR2 was terrible about getting these. I suppose it could be... But the sensor is at top of the radiator, and there's plenty of coolant up there when the light is on...

Pulled the sensor from my 83 LE and put it in the 85 GSL... We'll see what happens. Gotta take care of the engine, it's going to bring my sweet lookin LE back to life soon!

Mine comes on all the time now. Funny thing, last time it really was low on coolant. I'll get around to it later

Mine comes on every time and stays on until my car warms up fully. It used to beep anoyingly, but then I took out the speaker and it no longer makes noise for five minutes. I think it is just a bad sensor becuase my take and my coolant are always full.

When mine goes off I get out and flick the sensor wires/mount and get back in the car. For some reason that works

My coolant module died. The light would come on sometimes, and go out sometimes, and sometimes it would flicker once or twice.

Flickering is the clue the module's bad... it is supposed to have a time delay before it comes on, specifically so it does not flicker. If it goes out and comes back on real fast, you know the module's kaput.

Unplugging it is entertaining, because it is thoughtfully located above the fusebox on the Series 3. Not sure for other series.

The buzzing was getting on my nerves, so not long after I bought the car in '95 I got mad, reached under the hood by the drivers headlight, and pulled out his black box, some sort of module I guess. I have no idea what it was for but the car magically stopped buzzing and I haven't had any problems since.
