Accelorator pump help

I have a leak from the general vicinity of the accelerator pump on the left side of the carb. I STRONGLY suspect the pump. Yes, I have a service Manuel, yes, I searched, No I didn't find an answer that fit.

1. I need a cheap fix to stop this leak. getting side drafts Friday but I have to re-build the carbs before I can use them. So the stock carb has to hang out for a while.

2. Leaking gas is bad at $4.50 / gal

3. Is this common for 1st gens and what other leaks will I find in my 2nd month with a 1st gen.

My 2nd gen leaked like a secret agent folder at the pentagon. I found a bad fuel pressure regulator. But I haven't worked a carb in 20years

Leaking fuel on top of an engine is a problem for other reasons, too. (*CHUFF!*)

Most likely culprit is the pump diaphram. It's a 4-screw fix, if you have or can get a new one. And tiny fingers.

The only cheap easy fix that might work is tightening each of those 4 screws. I've stopped a slowly dripping leak that way. If that doesn't work the diaphragm probably needs to be replaced. Two screws (in very challenging locations) and the accelerator cable bracket need to be removed to get to all of those 4 screws on the pump cover.

A failing accelerator pump diaphram is quite common and will leak where you circled in the pic. Buying the diaphram is about 1/2 the price of a full rebuild kit so I suggest buying the full kit. They run about 30 bucks from AutoZone. Even though you're upgrading the carb, a freshly rebuilt Nikki will bring your investent back if done correctly and tested on the car.

...and if its not too much of a problem...take the carb off....much easier and you won't have to worry about small parts entering the throttle plates.....that is if you get the whole kit. But even so....to change the diaphram properly, remove the carb.

I find it's best to remove the carb, then drive out the pin after removing the c-clip thing. Also gotta watch for those two small flat washers. Then all four screws holding the diaphram housing on are easy.
