Accelerator Pump trick from "Carb Crap...Nikki Mods" thread question

Okay I read, and i somewhat understand the AP trick with mech. secondaries idea with the Haynes manual right in front of me, but when it says to cut out gasket for both sides of the diapragms, i kinda get lost on how this is supposed to be set up. i really want to optimize my nikki's performance, i am tired of vacuum secondaries, and all the nonsense that comes with it. i will check tomorrow on the supple-ness of my diapragm for the AP, I hope i am fine in that department. the gaskets are the square shape of the AP cover, then with quarter shaped circles in them? is that correct? i think. also does anyone have a pic of the AP lever and linkage extension? i am not sure how to set this up either. any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

-renz

p.s. you can't tell me to SEARCH or use the SEARCH button because I already did!!! that's how i came across this.

Yes your correct. Pretend you cut the rubber diaphragm out of the AP. Thats the shape of the gaskets youll make.

ANYWAY...
how do you get off the accelerator pump housing cover if there is a rod and linkage and whatnot in the way of the last screw. how do i disconnect that rod?

Click on my sig. It'll bring up a picture.
You do need longer screws.
You need to remove the one screw that's in the path of the head of the pin before you can slide the pin out. Then the other screw that's behind the pin can be removed.
Don't forget, there's a circlip holding the pin in place, too.

troubles still....

i see the clip holding the pins in place, but not the screws in front and back i'm supposed to unscrew. this seems a lot harder than it should be. see pic...

thats the AP. that's the rod holding it in place with the clip. where's the screws you speak of?

Its a PITA, work at it. Use a small flat blade screwdriver. If Sterling and I can get that off, modded and back on in 9 1/2 minutes (Ask cdrad51) , Im sure you can get it.

Try this. Use 2 small jewelers screwdrivers, one on each open end. Hold one steady and push on the other. Thatll push it out and not allow it to simply rotate. Just standard gasket paper like they sell in a roll.

Start with one beer and some chips.
Walk around your car admiring it while you are well into your second beer.
If you weigh over 220, then perhaps you should have one more full beer.
And more chips.

Do you see how that pin can not come out when the stock accelerator housing screw is blocking it? Well, you need longer screws for this mod, but only by about an 1/8th inch. Thing is, most screws you'll get to replace the chunky-headed stockers will be lower in profile.
There is a void in the casting behind that screw hole. You can get a screw that's slightly longer, and just stack a few washers under the head, thereby raising it up and effectively locking the pin into position.

So don't worry about that little clip! -I mean, try to save it, but it's not the end if you can't, right?
Besides, any decent hardware store will have something they can replace it with anyway.

just in case anybody else really doesn't know how to get that little clip of its fastest and in the long run the most pain free if u just hold on the end of the tiny clip with your nail so it cant spin and push on the other side with a screwdriver
