Accelerating on its own...

Now that I've been driving my rx7 more often, I've realized its doing something really funny.
If I ever decide to open it up and floor it to red line, when i push in the clutch the RPMS suddenly jolt up another 1000-ish on their own, then when I hit second gear if I continue to ride it under a high load it will do it again as I start shifting into third. Every gear will do this if I ride up up realatively high in rpms and then go to shift.
Also if I gas it in third and take it to say 5500 rpms or higher once I shift into fourth it will jolt up on its own, then when IN fourth if i just completely take my feet off all the pedals it continues to accelerate somewhat, and the rpms will no drop on their own. This can also happen in any of the gears after running it to or even near red line, with WOT.

Also when I do this once I come to a stop the engine has a very rough idle in neutral and starts to let a little bit of smoke out the back sometimes.

Any ideas whats causing this?

sounds like a potential accelerator pump problem

Hmm, think I've heard of this before. I believe it came down to a device on the carb which is supposed to slow the release of the throttle for emisions purposes. Might be called the Dashpot, or something like that. Can't remember, but if you search for that term you might come up with something useful...

Also, there is a TPS on the carb. I'm not sure of it's actual function, I removed my rat's nest and after that it becomes obsolete anyway from what I understand. Good luck..

mine acts the same.. if i go to get on the interstate and hit the gas threw 2nd once i get to 3rd (mine is not somewhat revving its like my foot is to the floor) and when this happens on a normal road i put in the clutch and turn the car off or i will kill myself..turn the car back on and it will run fine

on the interstate it isnt half bad just put it in 5th and i have ghetto cruise control

Well when I do it i start apply brake and let it sit in neutral for a while after going immediately to 5th. Its not continuing its acceleration as long as it used to now that I've been driving it everywhere and having to keep up with my friends 5.0. I was gonna get new carbs anyway so I may just do that and deal with the issue until then. My fueling seems to get really bogged out when I hit real high rpms like it seems that the car stops wanting to pull as hard under WOT at 6000+ RPMS. Hopefully the new carbs will help, and I may get a new fuel pump cause it bogs down within the first 2000 rpms if held for a little bit of time, then just stalls in neutral.
