Question Acc. pump problem??

I just got a 79 rx7 and when you step on the gas to accelerate it hesitates real bad and wants to die. I have to feather the gas till the RPM gets up there then it drives fine.
Is this a bad accelerator pump? Thats the only conflusion I have come to so far. I also bought a carb tune-up kit because that was the only way I could get the acc. pump fast. Is the acc. pump the square flat thing? and how hard is it to change on of these out? how much time?
Thanks for any advice

If I was you I would perform a complete rebuild on the carb. The accel pump is not hard to change and make sure you pull the pin first when you remove the bottom left screw. This will make removal easier. I would also change the fuel filter that is located by the fuel pump.

The carb on my 85 did the same thing and I had to get a whole new accelerator pump from another carb because the accelerator pump lines in the carb were messed up and it fixed the problem. Yeah it's that square thing
