Ac plugging

So recently I made the decision to remove my ac for a more clean engine bay. One of the lines run along the back on the firewall before going into the firewall. The other runs down by the battery and into the radiator back out the radiator into a cylinder. And back up towards the firewall. What does this do? I assume I can just plug it but I just want to make sure. Also if you know, what is a good way to plug the ac connections? I have an 84 gsl.

First question is; do you plan on ever hooking up the A/C again in the future? If yes, I'd suggest leaving the hoses in there and plugging them with something solid - because any contaminants that get into the system over time will have to be cleared out or you risk damaging your new compressor that you'll need to get cold air blowing.

If you have no intention of EVER installing A/C back into the car, that hose that goes forward goes to the Filter / Dryer (silver or black canister), and then to the Condenser that looks like a thin radiator in front of the coolant radiator. The Condenser is an airflow blockade in front of your engine radiator, and removing it will likely help with engine cooling. If you take the header panel off above this area, you can see the Filter Dryer and the Condenser very clearly, along with the lines that can be removed. The High and Low Pressure lines can be unscrewed from the firewall connections, but again, think about plugging these properly, because failure to do so will make retrofit of A/C on the car very difficult and possibly expensive due to damage to the new components you'd be putting in to retrofit.

For a very clean engine bay, remove the hoses, Filter Dryer and Condenser completely.

I can attest to the expense. The PO took my AC out and didn't take much care, it was a mess and about $1500 to put it all back with a new compressor.

I'd strongly recommend keeping it in, it doesn't look that much cleaner and you or the next owner will want it in.

I took my whole system out when I moved to NC, what was I thinking? Anyway, I did do it carefully and preserved all the parts and plugged the hose connections at the firewall. I also lubed my compressor and turn it occasionally. I intend to reinstall once I get new rubber hoses made (hard to get for an SA correctly done with the right metric ends).

It gets hot in Kansas, are you sure you want to remove it?
