AC/Heat fan control in '84

My '84 GS will only blow heat (or ac) on the last 3 of 5 fan settings. What is the part called that controls that? I think its a resistor that is under the dash on the passenger side but I may be thinking of some other car.....The guy at the parts store couldn't/wouldn't locate the part.

Help?

I have a similiar issue on my 84 GSL. If I select the air flow to the floor vents, it will skip over it and go to the defrost vents. It also constantly blows in outside air on the driver side vent. I looked this up on the factory shop manual (section 15-body electrical) which can be down loaded off of the faq thread (I could kiss somebody for doing that) and believe this is going to have to do something with the blower assembly (or at least in my case). I have not taken the time to really study the way the system functions but it is on my list.

This problem is likely due to the switch being bad or you could have a bad resistor pack. The resistor pack is located on the side of the blower motor. I have an extra switch from an '84 if you need it. I don't have a spare resistor pack, unfortuantely. I would check the local wrecking yards to try to track down the resistor pack.

Got it and got it. I'm gonna check that resistor pack since I've had this happen before and that's what it was. If it turns out to be the switch, I'll pm you to purchase it.

THANKS!
