89 motor w/ ecu, harness, man trans into my 84 GSL

This is my first post, so I might have a lot of questions for those who might have the answers. I just bought a running 89 rx (not GTU or Turbo) that was totalled. I also own two 84 SE's. I want to transplant the engine from the 89 into one of my 84's. What is involved outside of the motor mount changes? Which manual trans can I use? Will I need some kind of different length driveshaft? I plan to swap as much of the 89 into the 84 as I can. Has anyone done this particular swap? Any help is greatly apprecitated.

Ok here we go. First some advice. b4 asking a bunch of ?'s use the search. Everything has pretty much been covered 1 million times and some of these guy's get teste about this ****. Plus there is alot of good info in alot of these old threads.

Here is the little bit of help I can give u

As far as the 89 into the 84se (That's what I have....Mine is turbo Though) the OMP on the 89 is electric and wont work with the se front cover (it hits something) real pain in the ***. So I had to use mechanical OMP which meant I had to use 87 or 88 ecu.
Also means u might have to use 88 wire harness(not sure.... I did). Read this if u also have to change harness http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/injector.html

I used a turbo2 tranny which meant I had to have a custum made driveshaft (I paid $200). the shifter sits about 1" furthur back but you can hardly notice the difference. I did have to cut a bit of the body to make the shifter fit (no big deal)

ps: If anyone knows how to use the 89 OMP in the se front cover please let me know.

I will take some pics of my engine and tranny, driveshaft so you can get a better Idea. there are some here already though

If I was incorrect in any of this I'm sure some of these guy's will correct me.

Good luck

I would be the man on this subject

Anyway, as far as that electric OMP goes, you just need to drill and tap the additional holes so the 89 OMP will fit. Although you could use a mechanical one that would just bolt on, not using the 89 OMP will through the ecu into "limp mode"

Thats all there is to it. Oh and for the record, you dont need the SE front cover, any 12a front cover, will work.

The SE's front cover make it easier to put a turbo oil line in it. However, the SE and the 84-85 12a had the same front cover anyway.

Evita, if you have anymore questions just drop me a PM.
