85 rx in houston...whats it worth?

I recently got burned on a deal to buy a "friend" a 1985 running. after TTL and cash im into it@$1600. my "friend" sees the car and it has "700" on the front and so he refused to pay me what i have into it (hes a young guy who doesnt understand "700" was the down payment) now what id like to know , how bad did i get burned? is this car worth painting? it is straight with leather seats some carpet is missing and some interior plastic is missing and it has 160K miles it does run and seems tight mechanically. should i try to part it out or do yall think i could recover this $$ im into it for. is that light at the end of the tunnel or a frieght train. HELP !! i just dont know what to do.

It's hard to say without some pictures but if it's tight mechanically, has current stickers, and the A/C works I say put it up for sale and get your money back out of it. If you do get it painted just clean it up and let Macco do it. A $300 paint job can double the value of a car like this. Pick a color that will sell but hide flaws. White, Silver etc.

What type of 7 is it? Base or S, GS, GSL, GSL-SE. What color interior? These cars are often in local salvage yards where you could score the missing pieces for cheap. Try the Pick-A-Part on Northville and the North Freeway. If your interested I can name a few yards to call that have had 1st gens in the past.

How does it run? Fast or just run.

all i really know so far is that it does run the clutchis tight and all the geers are there. its silver already but i own a collision /refinishing shop and i am certified for A/C so those are minor things to fix for me. as far as the S,GS,GLetc... im not sur it seems to be a base model but there is some adhesive residue where the badges should be but im not sure(the title is being sent) it does have the cool stock alum. wheels w/ matching spare and tires are 50%++ mainly cosmetically speeking it needs the plastic where the stereo goes and the hatch covers for the rear deck compartments and the carpet is missing behind the seats...the whole carpet is ugly too so...but like i say to me these things are minor . as far as driving ???i dont think it will keep up with any of our bow tie rigs(even our 4x4s run good so i dont really know what to compare it to)its not registered so i have not driven it more than enough to know the geers are there. keep in mind i did not plan to own this car it was purchased on the understanding that this "friend" wanted it and the reson he didnt take it home is because of the "700" on the windshield....he tried to give me $700 but i have 1600 into it after TTL and the purchase of 1250. the "700" on the window was what the dealer wanted for a downpayment. I am not a dealer i repaint cars...high end lexus, porche, corvettes.etc..this kid is trying to rebuild an 82 rx and found out the motor is shot so tried to help him by buying a runner for him. the whole time i looked at the car I described what i was looking at and told him i personally didnt want to buy it but he insisted on having it then he pulls this stunt with me and im supposed to eat a $900 loss ...no no no and shame on him. like i say i dont want or need this car and if i have to part it out i will but if i can just sell it out right and recover (at least most ) of my $$$ i am willing to consider any option or trade...ya know? i tried to do a guy a favor and i got stuck with the car because he thinks im tring to pull something over on him...im not in that kind of business i work hard for my money and im willing to jump some tall hurdles for my friends. it hurt my feeling to tell him to **** off but hey man thats life sometimes. with friends like that who needs a proctologist?

so thats where im at im willing to cut some loss just not $900 right off the top...even for a friend.

Friends don't put you in that situation. Pics would help.If it has leather then more than likely it is a GSL. It should have disc brakes on the rear, a sunroof, pwr windows. If it is carb'd it is a GSL. if it has a FI 13b motor then it is a GSL-Se. Don't part it out, if you have to put it on ebay or advertise it locally.
Oh, gray is a more desireable color. If the interior is Gray that's even better. But i am going to guess that the interior is red.

I live just a few minutes from there. I'm off of Louetta. I can take a look at it. Are you next to the baseball fields?

Judging from the picture, it is not a GSL-SE. Check if it has drum or disk rear brakes.

That's a few minutes from me also. Fred if you plan on going over let me know I'd like to meet up and see it also. I could also bring you the ECM and AFM you let me borrow. I'll be at church until after noon though.
