85 Gsl-se air filter

I have a 1985 Gsl-se and have been looking at air cleaners. I have the stock air box and I have been looking at doing a dry cone filter with maf adapter or maybe just a k&n air filter and use the stock box. I was wondering if any body with a Gsl-se what they have and how good a dry cone filter would work .

i have a k&n drop in on my 85 and its been great thus far. adding just a filter without building a true "cold air" induction where the piping draws fresh air form the front of the vehicle will not raise power much if any, as the filter will be sucking in more hot air from the engine bay than from stock. the SE has two plastic inlet ducts that join together and act as a "cold air" intake in junction with the stock air box. while primitive, it works quite well!

The factory air box is a cold air intake, just use a k&n drop in panel filter. I did both and the panel filter got the win by far. It also preserves that oe look as well.

+1 from me here also. I have the stock air filter. It acts like a cold air intake anyway since it draws air away from the hot side of the engine. K&N filter drops right in, and is fairly cheap. I also like the original equipment look of the air filter box in comparison to a stupid cone. The cone makes it look ricey, and has no benefit at all.

It's the best looking stock box ever. Drop in the k&n and enjoy. And yes! Dave is right...again.

I bought the drop-in filter and never looked back. Runs fine, oil it from time to time.

And Dave's right.

They carry one for it.

Or build you one with this.

Here is mine that I made still have to build a heat shield around it and run new air duct to it. The duct on this car was missing when I bought it. Also relocate the coolant overflow tank.
