84GSL-SE, 6PI cleaning...
I've been collecting all the gaskets and parts that I need to take off the lower intake manifold this weekend and wanted to check with other 13B RE-EGI owners to see if there's any tricks to doing this job well and getting th '6' ports cleaned out and working well.
I had the upper intake manifold off (many times) in the past few weeks for injector replacement and noticed that the lower intake manifold is nearly black along the intake plenum walls from oil and 162k mi worth of gas and grit sticking to the tube walls. I'll be taking the lower manifold off to clean these out without the gunk draining into the intake of the engine.
While I have the lower manifold off, I figured I'd pull out the 6 port cylinders and clean these out, too to ensure that it's running top notch.
Any suggestions for cleaning materials, fluids, and techniques are appreciated. TIA,

i did it about a month ago. it was a pain in the saa. what i did is i took the biggest bould i have and about 3 gallon of castrol super degreaser, put the lower manifold over there and let it overnight. took the sleeve out , i took them out with a pair of pliers because mine was stuck and i have to go back and fourth to get them out and dipit with the degreaser too. and i took an rag and carb cleaner too and started to clean the port. and for the upper part, carb cleaner. after that just clean the manifold and the sleeves with water and soap. i grease the up and every came back clean and together i spend about $30 on cleaning stuff and 4 days doin it. but that how i did it, came pretty clean and i felt a big diference in idle and hp
stuff that i used
3 gallon of castrol super degreaser
2 cans of prestone carb cleaner
old tooth brush
big old bucket
a bunch of rags

I also cleaned out the lower intake manifold out during my engine swap. Nothing was stuck even after 282K miles on this engine but I wanted everything clean though. I used Chemtool Carb cleaner (it worked much better than something like Gumout and doesnt stink as bad) a small metal brush, flathead screwdriver to chisel off the hardened crud and a can of Air Duster since I dont have an air compressor. Pulled everything off; ACV, actuators, rods, sleeves and popped in newer Pineapple Racing ones. Washed the manifold with a light soap and water afterwards. Like eddie said its a pain but worth the trouble.

Thanks, guys - will be doing the job this weekend, but still messing around with fuel injectors now. I think I've identified which one is bad, and I'm getting good at taking the upper intake manifold off in 20 minutes or less!
Take it easy,
