84 rx wond start please help!

I am trying to get my new project running. It is an 84 rx with the 12a. I purchased the car without a fuel tank and the fuel pump was bad. I got a new tank on and replaced the fuel pump. I have done some basic maintenance plugs, wires, oil and filter change and also the clutch slave cylinder. when I first got the car before anything was done to it i tried putting some gas straight into the carb and she fired up for a second till it ran out of gas. since the repairs she will turn over but will not start. The coils are also arcing from the coil wire to the coil, even after trying new coils. I can see gas geting to the carb it seems like it keeps flooding as soon as you try to start. I just dont see why it would start before but not know. If you have any suggestions please let me know, I am looking forward to driving it. Thanks!

I would try some starter fluid spray in the carb while trying to start it, if that does not work try jump starting it with another vehicle, so pull it with tow cables behind another vehicle while letting out the clutch in first. If neither one of those work pull the fuse on the fuel pump or cut fuel to the carb somehow, then keep trying with the starter fluid. Also if you can get the plugs out with the wires still on them and then turn it over to make sure they are all firing that would help diagnose it.

If you are getting the spark, and you can see you are getting fuel and push starting it is not working (also try to floor it and start it) if none of those work then come back and let us know We will get her running How many miles does she have on her?

Ya, the coils are still arcing. I have tried replacing them. Im wondering if their might be a short in them, and if that might be my problem? I am going to trace some wires and check all the connections today.

couple ideas- if you can replace the sparkplug/coil wires do it, if they're old and you get moving them around the sheilding can go quick. Also maybe check your fuel return line and make sure it's flowing back to the tank when the pump is on

Yea I would def get some new wires if you can, arching loses a whole lot of power, so that could def be the problem. Let us know what happens

I tried to start her again, still nothing. I swaped the arcing coil wire for a known good one, dident see any more arcing but still no start. It tried to start but it flooded out. I was told to tap on the carb to see if the floats are stuck. Il try that in the daytime.
