84 Manual Steering Box swap out question

My 84 went from power steering to a manual box setup. Column and gear were replaced (used). As it turns out, the manual box I got earlier this year is in bad shape, no real room for adjustments at this point. So, if I am able to find another used manual box, that is hopefully in decent enough condition, I don't have to pull the column, right? I can just remove the box and install the new one? This might be a dumb question, but, doing that column was a real PITA and I am hoping that is not the case for this. It had to be done when I went from the power box to a manual box, but I'm thinking if I am replacing the manual box with the same thing, it should not be necessary.

In theory. The column bits were all separate components once-upon-a-time. Q to ask/research is what seals need to be broken/replaced to pull it apart and are they available...

Frustrating stuff. Best of luck...
