'84-'85 clock hole diameter...

I am searching for a boost gauge for my '85 GSL-SE, and I want it to fit in the digital clock spot. Unfortunatley, my car is across town, so I can't just pop out and measure the whole for it.

Could someone please run out to their garage and give me an exact measurment of the clock hole on any model of '84-'85? Inches and/or mm would be fine.

Thanks!

The Clock itself is mounted in a square hole a 16th under 3 1/2 inches wide.

The hole in the plastic thing is 1/8 under 2 inches in diameter.

i would say 50mm cause i had to slighty file out the hole to put a 52mm gauge in. it has a curve to a point and if you just round it off a bit its a nice snug fit.

Okay, so I'll assume a 2" boost gauge will be much easier to find than a 1 7/8" boost gauge. Overlap behind the panel (i.e. boost gauge slightly bigger than hole) will be easier to deal with than a gap around the gauge in the hole (i.e. hole slightly larger than gauge).

I'll run with the 50mm figure, and see where it takes me.

Thanks guys.

Jim, I just got the Autometer ultralight one (2-1/16") and it fit, yet I had to enlarge it slightly with my dremel.

I mounted a 2 1/16" A/F Gauge behind the clock hole, no mods needed, and looks like it was a stock piece.

Thanks Directfreak. So that's a 54mm if I get one from a metric inclined 'net shop. I'm leaning towards the Omori with the orange back lighting to match the dash lights.

Any thoughts as to analog or electric?

defprun: that is not Directfreak's dash, it's a image from a catelog.

BOOST Gauge - Analog.

If you want it to match your regular gauges (orange on black)
I believe it's HKS.

I will look through my links to see if I can find it.

EDIT: They all have colored nipples to change the color of the lighting at night.

2 1/16= 52mm. I have a 52mm pod with 2 1/16 gauges in it in my TII.

Actually, I have a set of Jose's white faces I am trying to match, so I need a white face that is back-lit in orange through the entire white face of the boost gauge.

That will make things a tad bit easier then.

Thanks again.

Then Definately the mechanical Boost Gauge from Autometer in the "phantom" style.

Should match perfectly with your setup.

Again, there are 2 of them. One goes to 20 PSI, the other to 30 PSI. Depending on your boost levels, select wisely

Okay, either I'm getting very tired here, or there is conflicting info.

The hole in the plastic panel is 1 7/8" according to defprun.

According to Omori (the current contender for my boost gauge) the back portion of the 52mm gauge is 52mm (2 1/16"), and the front part is 58mm (2 5/16").

Diagram: http://www.omorimeter.co.jp/catalog-4.html

If the hole in the dash is 1 7/8", and the rear portion of the gauge is 2 1/16", the gauge will not fit without trimming 3/16" off the hole.

Do I need more or less drugs to figure this out? I wish I had my car here.

And here's another question for you, as long as I got you on the line. I will have to do a search to see what else comes up though...

AJC13B (who I respect immensely) has recommended the Omori gauges. Directfreak (also mucho respect) is suggesting Autometer. Is there a difference in quality or price there, or is it a asthetic preference difference?

Thanks!

Jim, I have No experience with anything but Autometer, HKS, and Greddy gauges. I don't know squat about Omori.

Here in South Florida, Autometer seems to be the weapon of choice, especially since the other brands are usually much more expensive. They are pretty accurate and look very good in my opinion. (I like the ultra-lights models)

My Rotary Tuner/Guru - Crispeed, also uses Autometer gauges in his 9 sec TII drag car if that helps.

As long as you use the Pro-Comp series, Autometers are great. I don't trust the Sport-Comps as much.
