'83, is it worth it

What's up all, i'm new but have been reading the board fro about a week now. I have the chance to buy an "83 don't know what model but it doesn't run and i know about the ATF trick and am goin got try that before i buy it. Reason that's possible is because my dad works at an autction ans it's just going to sit ont he lot untill somehting can be done with it, it owuld most likely be scrapped so my DAD made an $100, no response. I was wondering first of all, if there is a way to tell what model it is whithout looking at the obvious stuff, also it's only got 80,000 miles on the clock. If this car is running well and everything i would like to be able to 200hp out of the engine for minimal costs well i hope my questions can be answered and if not i'll just keep readin but if they were thatt'd be a great help

thanx GEOFF

200 hp will take some doing on a 12a. turbo is always an option, otherwise you will have to port. either way, you are looking at some green.

if you have the vin number, i am sure someone around here can tell you what model it is. otherwise you need to look at the car. if it has rear disk breaks then it is a gls, in which you also have a limited slip differential rear end (which is a definatly plus).

I have a link just for some info on trim levels and such.

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/S.../firstgen.html

IMO 150 horses in a light 7 is very enjoyable and very doable. 250 would be better, but then you are spending a lot of money and/or time, and you must upgrade the rest of the cars systems to compensate for the increase in power, thereby necessitating more green/elbow grease. And as they say, if you have to ask you can’t afford it.
