82 Storage

Hey everyone i'm going to be taking my 82 RX7 off the road for about a year, and I don't want it to turn into a rust bucket. I can't store it inside. A lot of people have been telling me :Bss: I know this isn't necessarily RX-7 specific however any input would be great.
I would like to spend as little as possible. I’m taking it off the road because it’s too expensive right!

Covering it should be sufficient.

you could also get one of those "pop up garages' where you literally put stakes into the ground and supports from within hold up a piece of VERY HEAVY canvas where you can drive your car into it and zip it shut for as long as you wish! Good luck!

I don't know a lot about rotaries or 7's yet but I don't think pouring oil down the carb is a good idea on any car.

I would drain all the fluids and maybe flush the oil with kerosene (check w/ somone who actually knows what tehy are doing first), and maybe some shrink wrap over the carb to keep moisture/bugs out.

If you have any rust showing - even tiny little hints - rub oil onto them, then top it off with thick grease. This will slow the oxidation down mightily.

My uncle was stationed in Guam for 3 years.
He asked the dealer what to do. They said drain the gas and run the gas out of the carb, put it on jack stands, drain the radiator, and remove the plugs, and pour a couple of tablespoons of oil in each side of the rotor. After 3 years it started right up, but the thick smoke killed most of the cats and dogs in the area.

Park it on wood then. Keep the tires off the ground/concrete. And if you are still going to be in the area, you could start it up once in awhile.
