82 major problem

82 major problem

i was drivin in a 35 mph zone and all of the sudden the car lost all power and didnt want to idle. so i pulled over and checked it out. since i just bought the car and didnt know the history of maintenance. i replaced the cap,rotor, coil,spark plugs,wires and it didnt fix the problem i was on the highway full gas to the pedal and only goin 45 mph. when i was changing the rotor i noticed that when i turned the rotor slightly the coil would spark but from the negative side to the wire. mind that the car was off and the key wasnt in it. its never given me any sign or problem til blam all at once . thank for any help

If your car won't idle it's usually a sign of vacuum leak somewhere. Take some time and check every single hose you have, maybe just go ahead and replace them all. They're probably old and cracking anyway. Pull the rats nest while your at it if you don't have to worry about emissions. That will eliminate alot of possible vacuum problems. Check out www.mazspeed.com for a great tutorial on that.

You'll need to start with the basics. First, verify that you have spark on your leading ignition. This is probably the best bet for your issue. After that, look into fuel flow problems. Fuel filters are notorious for clogging on these cars, and at three bucks and fifteen minutes its a pretty basic maintenance item that should be done every 6 months or so.

well the only thing else i can think of is that it idles rough real rough when you give it gas but kinda smoothes out a2000 to 3500 rpms any higher and get rough there is a flutter or voomp that sound near the carb when you give it gas then let go but only then.... no mods..other than that it drives but no power its got 200k on it but it ran fine til yesterday. ive looked down the carb and it looks like it getting gas and the window on the side of the carb is in the middle of the window .a friend suggested that it sounded like it was missing so i replaced all the parts i mentioned another friend said that it might be the points not sure if thats the problem never delt with points before .ive looked at the vacuum hose no cracks all hoses are on..... will replace fuel filter to day ...........thanks again

found one of the problems. that the spark plug wire werent right and so i adjusted that looking into the gas filter cause now she turns but doesnt start but act like she wants to . will keep you posted on that tommarow ...thanks and just a qiuck q can you u use starting fluid on a rotary and if anybody has any ideas or possiblity's throw them at me

well guys ive changed the fuel filter which was bad a dark brown colored gas came out .but unfortunately thecar still wont start once again any ideas plus if anybody lives near the moses lake area will pay to come check out this car

1. no points or your car. It has electronic ignition.
2. check for spark on all plugs (especially leading).
3. could be fuel related

My feeling, though, is it sounds like you may have tossed an apex seal. Search for "ghetto compression test" on here to find out if that is the problem.

blow the fuel lines clean check timing, make sure the tank isnt clogged or massively dirty check for flow on the fuel pump . vacum leaks are a pain in the *** check by spraying carb cleaner around the carb see if the Idile changes with someone helping of course change dist plugs and wires make sure trailing is at top and leading is at bottom. TRAILING TOP. LEADING LOWER 1 front 2 back leading coil is close to strut. trailing is close to battery that vooop sound sounds like a vacume leak around the passanger side of the carb its a after burner pot and there is a big hose there that when leaking makes a howling noise and will cause the car to run like crap. have you checked compression?

yea, had the same problem. It ides like a 4 cylinder with a huge came and has no power and doesn't go over 40-45 sounds like apex seal. One of your ignitors is linked to the fuel pump and tac, so if your tac doesn't work it's your ignitor, if not it's most likely you apex seal. I did the same thing went to replacing all the ignition stuff, and nothing. so you can tear down and rebuild witch mean you can port. if your not going to port your motor then it's same cost and easer to replace the motor, maybe keep old one as project.

did the search for the ghetto compression test but no results anybody got a link to this.i checkedthe flow its fine plenty goin through a guy suggested that i try to pull start made a biuld up of gas is in there. what you guys think

one other thing ive noticed is that my air pump doesnt blow very much is this correct i hardly throws any air tach is working so i will do the ghetto comp test tommarow anybody in the wash area thatcan recommend a place to port and rebiuld my motor

Did you ever visually verify that you have spark on the leading ignition? I'm feeling like I'm talking to a wall here man! Start with the simple ****, then freak out later...

well its alive and i thank you for all your help and ideas it end up being a couple of things first was the fuel filter and spark after trying to prime the carb with dropping gas down it .. it was full got a pullstart and cleared it out it came alive and is running the idle is kind of rough and taking off in first is sluggish but will see if it will get better once i run it a bit.
