MD 82 12A wont hook up to 80 5spd Tranny

...read through the forum and this hook up should work. I have the tranny and the motor out ...it seems almost like the spleen/shaft out of the bell housing is too long for the 12A??...I have about 1/2 '' space before the bell housing surface meets the block...any ideas..it wont budge!!!

Check the pilot bearing in the flywheel. It may be damaged, or the clutch disc has slipped and you need the alignment tool.

The alignment tool (or something like it, like a spare input shaft) is a must-have; trying to get things to mate up without it can drive you insane.

It's one of those simple, use it for 30-seconds tools that are just about indespensible.
