Unhappy 81 Rex + Deer @ 50mph = happy F'ing Thanksgiving to me

All I can say is DAMMIT!

I drove 3 hours home from Steamboat Springs, CO to Fort Collins, and in the last TEN MINUTES of my drive a deer pops out from the ditch in the CENTER of the 4 lane highway. I was doing about 70 and slowed to around 50 when I slammed into him.
Hit him with front left of the car, he slammed into my hood and catapulted off my windshield. The guy behind me says the deer flew about 20 feet into the air. The car was much better off than the deer, the deer never stood up. We drug it off the road. The car had the hood smashed in, front left headlight ripped apart, and some moderate bumper damage (windshield didn't even crack!). The hood crushed in so far that it bent the housing to the fan and I cut that away and the fan works fine. So mechanically it's sound, cosmetically its ugly.

I'm trying to get my digital camera to work with my computer so I can post pics, so check back if you want to see the mess.

Its been a great 2 days overall... my guitar amp broke, drove 150miles out of the way to get home because I missed my turn and didn't know it, got food poisoning an hour BEFORE thanksgiving dinner, smashed up my car 10minutes from home, and then threw a chair through my wall because I'm so incredibly pissed off at everything.

Since I can't afford to fix this car up the way I want to, I'm considering selling it as a parts car and starting over with maybe a second gen, or I could just get a honda civic to get me through college.... anyone want to buy my car? Nice stereo, runs well, a couple mods. 106,xxx miles.

Thank god it's saturday, I need to relax after all this crap.
Cheers.

damn that sucks.

if the motor runs good. hit up a junk yard. and get the body parts, the light ***. fenders, and hood are easy to replace.

and your good to go.. maybe hit up your insurance to replace the parts.

sorry to hear it. go get some parts from a salvage yard and fix it! BTW, I was doing 45 mph in town when I hit a deer the other day! It was going to be dead center and I swerved to miss it. I clipped it at the front right bumper. The RX7 didn't get a scratch but I pulled some fur out of the bumper!

An oak tree hit me a couple weeks ago. Act of god: got the comprehensive check from AAA a couple days ago. Junkyard headlight assy and center piece from junkyard. New paint job coming up soon. It'll be better than ever.

Man I feel for you. We have a serious deer over population problem here in upstate NY. I did my best to try to help bring it down during deer season, but so far no luck.
I smacked one this time last year. single lane county highway and oncoming traffic. I had to grit my teeth and whack it- I had no place to go! I was being EXTRA careful just because of the deer, and sure as ****. Luckily I was only doing 50 and slowed to about 35-40 when he ran into the front right fender.
They sure do crumble easy.

Don't dispair...sounds like an easy fix and I think after you cool off you'll reconcider that your car is worth it.

There is an 85 gs that you could get for next to nothing not to far from me. It needs some interior work but the body is sound and no storage bin rust. Also, It had some electrical gremlins supposedly, but this guy no nothing about rotaries. PM me and If you want and i'll see if he still has it. Basicly he wants what it cost him to put out the ad, 35.00 bucks.

Pic of deer-smashed front

Couldn't get the digital camera to work, so I resorted to my low-quality phone camera to take the picture.

Here's what my car looked like the morning after the deer.

Since then I've atleast popped the hood back out a little and removed the mutilated headlight. Still looks jacked up, and the hood won't close though.

Rotor13b, I'm interested, check your PM's.

AAAAH!!!
Man that deer musta gotta fucked up! The pic of teh CAR is scary enough! Man that really sucks... one time in my AE82 Corolla i had my window rolled down and was spiritedly driving down the country roads and i saw eyes in the bushes so i slowed down to 60 (compared to my 90 mph that i was going) and then suddenly outta nowhere one deer just shoots outta the bushes straight for my headlights so i swerved away from it and sped up so it wouldn't flip over my car... WAM!-- the thing hits my driver side mirror and the mirror shatters straight into my face! I looked behind me to see the deer and it spun around and then i pulled over and slid my hands over my face in total relief. When i brought them back to where i could see them they were covered in blood.
I survived with a lotta cuts, both deep and minor, on my face but my corolla's mirror has been gone ever since.

Yea that pic isn't too pretty is it?

Keep in mind:

This was a VERY small deer, it was about a 1 year old buck, maybe younger, possibly born just this last spring.
He probably weighed only 200+ lbs.....
but damn that bitch could fly!! The guy behind me says it went 20ft UP after catapulting off my windshield.

I'm just glad it wasn't bigger....
or an elk! My friend hit an Elk with me in the car, it was a 2001 Subaru Forester. The car hit the elk on the passenger front (where I was sitting), took it out at the knees (elk are 6ft at shoulders) and its *** slid up the hood shattering the windshield and its head got whiplashed around the passenger side where it's antlers went through the passenger rear window. My other friend was in the backseat....luckily behind the driver cause he would have been messed up. This happened at about 40mph and the elk took off, its so big the car probably did nothing but just bruised its ***.

Why are animals so dumb? Thought process of a deer in a car's headlights: oooohh... pretty lights....

Sorry to hear about your weekend.

I bet after you've calmed down you'll decide to fix it up. Or maybe the 85 will work out.

What camera phone do you have? I've got a Sanyo 8100. Your pics look about as good as what I get.

That bites. 200lbs of flesh and fur can do some serious damage. The rut is in where we live and the bucks have lost their minds. I've seen them chase females across busy roads in broad daylihjt.
Have no fear, I'm doing my part to cull the herd (at least here). I shot this 9pt on Wednesday. Makes 3 so far this year (doe, 5pt and the 9pt.) One more and the freezer is stocked! Yummmm

My phone is an LG VX600 from verizon, its that one with the scrolling display/date/time. It's nice, very well made unlike my first cheapo Motorola.

Here's my poor wall. I broke a wheel off my chair doing it.... so i'm uneven now also

81projectrx7, I have 2 83s, you can have parts. Hoods are both good. No good fenders. Probably headlights.
Email off list if you want them, I'm in Colorado Springs.

I'm tired of driving around with one headlight and a funky looking hood!
