Question 79 rear on an 82

im kinda in a rush to find a rear for my car. im picking up an 83 rear tomorrow hoping it is an early model so itll fit on my 82. its cheap so if not i can resell it to my friends with 83-85s. but also i found a 79 rear and im wondering if itll fit on my 82?

kinda hoping to be able to put an rx7 rear and not have to go to an 8.8 rear from a fox justttt yet.

tldr:
will 79 rear fit on 82?

Yeah a '79 will go on a '82. Direct fit, it's the same thing just minor changes like self adjusting brakes and gearing.

good news! the 79 rear is on my 82 and works fine. the rear on my 82 had a welded diff and the spider gears blew. also something (i think watts linkage) was bent like they tried to frankestein the rear and bent it to make it fit or something along with the pumpkin. but thats all gone now! also kept the 79 wheels on mine cuz i think they look cooler but ill keep the 82 wheels and now im stripping the 79 car cuz alot of the stuff on it is nicer than mine or in better condition.

Good to hear it worked out. Yeah the waffle wheels are better than the "+" wheels.

no the 79 parts car was stripped. i took off the wheels, steering wheel, glass, trim, lights, rear end, suspension

cosmetically now my car has all the chrome trim! just need to glue some of the black trim on the sides back and then get some more rear light covers (friend has extras) and itll at least look factory
