check out this one. its almost mine. 4x105 bolt pattern? huh?

well i was originally going to buy a gsl-se, but due to certain issues with my life right now, i've had to go with something a little cheaper...

im pretty dead set on buying this 79 that was on ebay, its pretty nice...
-84 13b motor with dellorto 48mm side draft
-LSD from an '81
- racing beat exhaust
- body kit, targa roof

its a pretty nice looking car. anyways, on to the question.

i bought brand new wheels for the gsl-se with 4x114.3 bolt pattern. they are 17x7's and i'll be running 205/40/17 tires.

this car has four wheel disc, and the lsd is from an 81, however the owner says that the bolt pattern is 4x105, which is standard on the 79-80 rx7's...i thought they were all 4x110 except for gsl-se. apparently the suspension is stock, yet it has rear discs. how can this be? is it true the sa's, are 4x105? and do they make adaptors to convert to 105 to 114.3? i know you can do it from 110, but 105?

kinda sucks i can't afford my dream gsl-se anymore, but i do like certain things about the sa's...the bumers, and i like the interior as well....this one has black interior, and the dash is not cracked. here is the link to the car as advertised on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ADME:B:EF:CA:1

what do you guys think?

they're letting it go for $1800 cdn (about $1400 usd) and im about to send a deposit tonight.

oh, damn...what kind of body kit is that? it says its a xenon, but i can't find that kit anywhere on the net. i don't recognise that front spoiler from anywhere. the guy says the spoler is polyurethane, and the skirts and wing are fiberglass. looks clean, eh?

give me your opinions. is this car worth $1800? it comes with some stereo equipment too, but that doesn't matter much to me. kenwood cd, 2 mtx amps, boston acoustics 6x9's, jvc component front speakers, and a 12" mtx blue thunder sub...i'll probably sell all that. im picky with stereo equipment and i know what i want already.

the driver's door apparently has rotted at the bottom, and needs to be replaced. apparently there is a small hole in each front wheel well, and a small hole by the rocker, but the floors are solid, and the suspension linkage in the rear once rusted, and came off the body, but was professionally fixed up. im a little worried about the rust issues on this car, but the owner seems pretty honest, and says it reallyis very solid

The SA's and FB's had the same 4x110 pattern, they only changed it for the GSL-SE. Never heard of any rotary with 4x105? I know the RX-5 (Cosmo) had a different pattern but I can't remember what it was.

No car ever made has 4x105. So basically he's misinformed somewhere.

Just take a tape measure center to center across two lugs across from each other and find out.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=ADME:B:EF:CA:1

$1800 cdn. approx $1400 usd. should i do it?

nick

by the way, the guy says one person offered $1400, since this was the minimum bid. the auction was no reserve, so...and then a guy from his work has offered $1700, and he was seriously considering that offer. he told me he would sell for $1800 and hold the car for me unti i can fly out there and drive it home....he says its reliable enough to make the drive from winnipeg manitoba, to niagra falls, ontario. its gunna be an adventure!!!! im assuming its gunna be a 15 hr, drive, give or take!

****!!! nevermind guys, i just received this email. im so upset at this woman. she ruined my night. i was asking her about the bolt pattern, and it seemed to turn in to this monster of a woman who apparently i've been making her life a big hassle today with all my questions. read and comment!

first off, my last email to her:
wow. thank you so much for getting those questions answered. i really appreciate that

i think i am going to buy this car from you. however, here is my situation.

i have 2 honda crx's sitting here and have no room for another car until they go. a guy from virginia has sent me a deposit already to purchase them, and i am relying on the money from those cars, to make the full payment. I have approx. $800 that i can send immediately, but there is no actual date set for this guy to get these cars...so i hope you can work with me on this, and allow me sufficient time to come get the car. don't worry, even if the deal falls through, i will have no problem coming up with the remainding amount owing.

i am assuming you will want to make a contract, in fact i would prefer this. however, i would be weary to sign something along the lines of "balance must be paid in full within 30 days, or deposit is non-refundable". i understand the fact that i may lose my deposit, but would like as much time as you are willing to give me to come get the car. it isn't going to be easy. i will have to bus, or fly there, have insurance set up, a 10 day permit and all, and drive back. i will need a few days off work to do this, and cannot guarantee a date to have it done.

in fact, if you DO insist on setting a date whre i am going to lose my deposit, then i would prefer to send only a few hundred dollars instead.

please let me know your thoughts on this. it would be best for me to mail a money order to you for the deposit, this is the cheapest way. however, i have just set up a pay pal account in my father's name which i have never used, so maybe we could do it that way...whatever works for you.

apparently according to several guys on rx7club.com, there is NO such thing as a 4x105 bolt pattern for the rx7's...they say it must be 4x110. I do need to know if you have done something to change the original bolt pattern, as i have already purchased brand new 17" wheels for the car and it would be a big downer if i found out they cannot be used. (i originally was going to buy a gsl-se, but the deal fell through and so i bought wheels for THAT bolt pattern) the pattern for my wheels is 4x114.3, however they make adaptors to be able to use them on the 4x110 pattern. this is very important to me, so please find out the true bolt pattern on this car. like i said, NO one i have talked to has ever heard of a 4x105 and i really don't want to do a complete suspension swap in ordere to use my new wheels!!!

i will be around all night, or anytime tomorrow.

p.s. i would very much appreciate some high quality close up pics of the car all around, inside and out. i will buy the car regardless, but would like to see what im getting myself into anyways.

p.p.s. how is the 12" sub mounted? what type of sub box is being used? and can you provide details on how the system is hooked up? for example what amp runs what, and can you please proviude me with the model number of as many of the stereo components as possible (mostly the head unit). that is important to me. i know im being a pain, but when you're selling a car this old and with this many aftermarket parts, you gotta understand you're gunna get bombarded with a million questions. i wanna start making plans for the car now, not when i recieve it and figure out what's up with it. thanks for being so understanding

nick

and here is what i got in return!

First off, please don't use caps when talking to me in an email, its a form of shouting and I take offence!!

Secondly I have called my husband at work for a second time, and once again hes amazed at the bombardment of questions, yes this is an older car and no we do not understand why so many questions!

Listen we're talking about an $1800 car here not a Ferrari, and its just questions questions questions. The car comes as is, end of story. You know its a good deal otherwise you wouldn't be pissing your pants emailing every 5 minutes! You told me in an email there was a mint rx7 in the states for $1500 so why not buy that car? Oh thats right because the one we have has mods on it that are hard to find and if you were to put them on another rx7 it would cost you a good few thousand, you only need to look at racingbeat.com to see that.

For an extra $100 this is just far too much hassle, we have a guy here that is willing to take the car for cash this weekend, so thats what we are going to do. He's well impressed with the car and hasn't been taking every single model number etc! Nor does he shout at me!

And it is completly ridiculous to expect someone to sit holding a car for months for someone in the hope that they do eventually come and buy it, when there is someone here willing to take it in the next few days. We were willing to hold it for you but thought you were talking a few weeks or something.

I don't see where you used caps. Did you change the email that you sent to her? I think part of her anger is that she thinks that you are calling her a liar about the bolt pattern. I know that you what to be sure of what you are getting, but it must have a 4x110 pattern.

Most of the questions seem reasonable. I know that I would be willing to answer them if I was the one selling the car. However, they are selling this car at a good price because they either need the money or they need the space. They probably think that you are just jerking them around asking questions with no real intent on buying. They are probably stressed out with trying to sell the car and that is why her temper came about (they probably received many questions via email while selling on eBay).

One of the problems of buying something that isn't local is picking it up. You have to be willing to make the trip within a reasonable amount of time (like 2 weeks). Your idea of a deposit is good, but like I said, they either need money bad or need to get the car off of their property. They probably feel that if they sold it to you, they wouldn't get all of the money right away and then they may have to wait sometime for you to pick it up (and get the rest of the money). With any good deals you have to be in place with money in hand to ensure that you will get it. For them, it is easier just to sell it locally and get less money, but they will get the cash upfront and no longer have to deal with the frustration of trying to sell the car.

They should have tried to be more cooperative and patient if they are trying to sell online. But you have to remember that selling a car can be hard enough, but when selling online you are going to receive hundreds of questions because people are not willing to buy a car that they no nothing about.

I do think it was pretty rude in the way she reponded. It is no wonder she is having a hard time selling if she responds to other potential buyers in the same manner.

Just my $0.02. It is too bad that you will miss out on that car. It appears to be a pretty good deal.

Dumb bitch doesn't realise that selling a car on ebay requires the most intricate, and completely explained condition of the car.

Dumb ***** needs to give you all the information you need. When you're selling a car, your customer is what gives you money, or you're fucked.

She's a bitch, and I bet you woud've had tons of trouble. Forget it. You can always get another SA man. I got mine for about 800. I'm going to give it a turbo II swap by the end of January . Robert @ Rotary Shack is going to do the work.

BTW: No worries mang. You'll always find another 7...

Yeah, Dude... hang tight. The right one will come along.

It had potential, but the fact that they didn't like all the questions smells like a mullet to me. If they have that car and they were true enthusiasts, then they would be gushing answers out of pride and you'd stand a good chance of having a decent car. They prolly got the work done by a hack and then beat on it, so you're better of.

Another better one will be along. Keep the faith.

Nick1 she did you a favor! It was not meant to be so be gratefull! There are a LOT of really nice SAs and FBs out there. Mazda sold over 400,000 of them in N America! get your car/finances in order so you don't have to dick with the money issue when it comes time to buy. And unless you have someone on the ground at the car's location or a dealer/shop there that can give you a second opinion ($$ well spent!), be very careful about commitments over long distance!! It just STUNS me how 2 different people can think diferently about what qualifies as how "nice" or "mint" or "excellent condition" something is. Do NOT take their word as gospel EVER. Confirm -confirm- confirm.
Ebay can be a great place to buy anything if you are prepared - and prepared to WALK AWAY!! I bought my SA in California off ebay - and I live in Alaska! It would not have happened if I didn't happen to have a buddy who lived just 40 miles from the owner AND was an ex-mazda mechanic. The owner swore it was : "mint and needed nothing". Well, it was a nice clean, low mileage 1980 with 63K miles...but "mint"? no. I got lucky. And I looked at a LOT of RX7s before I took the plunge. And keep an eye out locally. Your best bet will always be one you can get to and examine before you pass over the cash!
Best of Luck

She probably wants the money right away and isn't will to wait. That doesn't excuse being rude. She could have just said that and ended it.

It's completely unreasonable to expect someone to buy a car online without asking detailed questions. That part makes me wonder if it's not what she'd said it was.

Either way, it sounds like you got out of a deal you wouldn't have been happy with in the long run. There are others out there. Just keep looking.
