5th & 6th ports affected

'85 GSL-SE, I hollowed out the cat, took it to a muffler shop to be welded back on and they also welded the tube from the airpump back like its supposed to be. I Thought you were supposed to clamp the hose shut or something? With stock exhaust and airpump still attached, what are the chances the 5th and 6th ports are still working? GRANTED I havent been home in 2 weeks (damn college) to check if the actuaters(sp?) are working but I will do that tonight.

well if you have blocked off the hose that goes to the line that is connected to the accuators then the dont work. If you havnt and the line is not clogged then they should be working fine.

Awesome. No the line is not blocked. It was welded back together at the clean cut I made with a sawzall.

I don't recall a "round thing" except the tube. All I did was take a sawzall, cut the cat off and cut the small tube next to it to remove from car. Punched out cat and they rewelded it exactly as it came off.

Take off the hose where it hooks up to your actuator and see if you can blow through it. It could be that when they welded it they welded it closed? To see if you actuators work disconnect that same tube and apply ~ 4psi to it. If your actuators work they will quickly snap open. Right now my actuators work but the exhaust isnt opening them (I've been smelling an exhaust leak). Im gonna try to locate the leak and if that doesnt fix it Im gonna do this mod..

theres the metal tube that hooks to the metal tube on the cat. The ones that runs up to the intake manifold has a check valve on it.

Just smear a little automotive greese on the rod of the actuators. Take the car for a spin and pin it out a few times. Come back and see if the actuators are opening.

Personally I thought the 6ports were a joke. I had a SE a few years ago and removed the entire setup. Took off the intake, removed the sleeves, valves and actuator rods. I took some JB weld and covered the hole where the rod came through. Honestly, I noticed NO low end loss and a whole lot of high end gain.

Also, if you have never had your intake apart you should check it out. 21 years of carbon build up makes that thing look like drug dealers hash pipe. I was amazed that any air was getting through, let alone the sleeves actuating. Clean it up and you will notice a difference.

Good luck
