4x110 to 4x100 wheel adapters.. any advice?

Question 4x110 to 4x100 wheel adapters.. any advice?

I've been on the hunt daily for 4x110 rims for my fb, but they seem to be pretty rare, and there is nothing locally for hundreds of miles. I stumbled upon these aluminum adapters, which look like they could be legit, and I checked out the feedback and there were tons of 1st gen rx guys buying them up. I havn't been able to track down a thread where someone has used them, but they're definately catching my eye. I was thinking these 100 bucks plus a nice set of rota 15x8's brand new for 600.. sure beats spending 700 bucks for 20+ year old weds.. as sweet as they are. Let me know what you think, and if you know of anyone that's bought something like these. they are only 15mm thick, so I'm not sure what offset rim I'd have to look for to fill the wheel well nicely. I have a set, there a good buy, but dont use he nuts that come with them .... they are super sketch buy some nice lug nuts 12mm by 1.50 if I remember correctly. also you will need to bring your stock bolts to a machine shop to chop the tops off to use some wheels. I would also recommend some custom hub-centric rings. I will post pics when mine are done.

awesome to hear.. and I definately noticed those lug nuts looked kinda cheap.. reminded me of that video of the fd autoxing and all four of the tires fly off.. I'd be using keyed nuts for sure, thanks for the info and pics when you get them

Don't waste your time. Buy some good 4x110 wheels and call it a day. You'll be happier in the long run.

generally I would agree with you, and I plan on buying some diamond racing steelies to get the perfect fit, but I come from VW's and I have a pile of cool 4x100 wheels, and the adapters not only swap me to 4x100 but also get the offset close enough to FWD land that I can put any of my wheels on the car, the only issue is the lack of any hub centric. but I have access to a machine shop and plan on makeing a sleeve that goes from Mazda thu the adapter to vw wheel, so everything will be a nice tight fit.

I will update with pics when everything is done. jdmminot he is probably right, unless you get the stock lug nuts cut down and have hub centric adapters made the fit will never be quite right, causing at the least of vibrations at speed.

I only bought them because it was cheeper to buy these and make sleeves then to buy 4 big chunks of alum and make my own that are right in the first place.

i would be much happier with 4x110 rims, and like I said I'm keeping my eyes peeled.. I'm definately not 100% on these adapters, so it's good to hear both pro's and cons. Thanks!

yes he does, but they are much more expensive. plan on having him make some adapters so I can bolt some nice 3 piece porsh wheels to my vw, his prices very but expect to spend 400 bux by the time your done for any custom stuff.

BTW the OG adapters in this thread are machined alum and not cast.. if you were wondering after taking that link .

the ones that you need to cut are the original 1 piece lug nut/studs, so that they don't stick out past the surface of the adapter, and the rim fits flat against it.

Just make sure the adapters you get are machined specifically for the 7. I bought a set and when they arrived, I found out the center was not machined to fit tight around the hub. 7 wheels are hubcentric. I had to machine spacers to align the adapter to the hub, and then the wheel to the hub.

The wheels you get are also dependent on this aswell.

Here's a picture of some Jeep spacer/adapters. The center hole fits the hub to center the adapter, and the step on the wheel stud side centers the wheel.

ive NEVER had a problem with spacers/adapters, i drifted on 2in TWO piece for to 5 lug adapters, hit a got ran off the road into a guard rail, bent my wheels but didnt damage the adapter at all.

To the OP:

Rota does make the RB (Panasport style) wheel in 15x8 for 4x110 pattern, so you could just get those and not to have to deal with adapters at all.

@ Twilightoptics- Yeah I'd definately feel better if these had the ridge to center the hub->adapter/adapter->wheel like the jeep ones, thanks for the link

@ayo513- sounds like the've held up for you.. I definately wouldn't be that hard on mine haha

@maninblack- ....sorry, I must've missed the discussion on these exact ones i was interested in?

@j_tso- yeah I have looked into these.. but I don't want to settle for the only ones that are out there, with the adapters my selection of rims would be endless.. and the used market is great for them, even here in nd

Were yours hubcentric when you go them?

I'm running 4x100 Acura wheels on mine and I'd like to keep them, for now anyway. If this guy can custom make them to fit that, I'll think about gettin a set.

The $240 was for 2 spacers or all 4?

Another option is to buy "wobble bolts" and they allow you to use 4x108 or 4x112 wheels. I did this for $60, and run a set of 15x8 mustang wheels, the ones off a mid 80's SVO, black w/ a polished deep dish lip, which I bought the set for $100. They've held up to numerous drag launches and many high speed runs just fine.

yup you did miss it even billy from RE-Speed had commented on the fact these are not made for a RX7 they are multi purpose and will not be 100% good fit. im not saying they wont work, but a lot of racing guys posted about the same item and all agreed that it was not a good idea exept for a trailer queen that never drives.

Gorilla makes probally every sized ring / spacer there can possibly be to make your rims / spacers hubcentric.

I had a set of rims off a 240 that I couldn't get the wobble out of no matter who balenced them, new tires, various different lug nuts, etc... Finally I learned about the hubcentric rings from Gorilla that were only around $4 each. Wobble gone. This was 10+ years ago so the price might be different these days. I'm sure they would work in this situation for the spacer to your RX-7. Not so sure what you would do for the rim to the spacer though if in fact you need to do anything...?

Rim's what you're trying to center as an end result. If you have to use a spacer to center the adapter/spacer then you wont be able to put on on for the rim because there's nothing for it to center itself on unless the adapter/spacer has a ring on the wheel side... which should just be machined for the wheel you want in the first place. If the wheel is different then a spacer can be used.

RX-7 wheels are not hubcentric.

There's an easy way to tell:

If it has tapered or shanked lug nuts, it's lugcentric.

The center bore is only there for the convenience of wheel installation. The taper holds the wheel centered.

I've used wildly non-hubcentric adapters before and it worked out just fine. Likewise, I use Nissan wheels on my RX-7 and they are also non-hubcentric and it works fine.

You might have problems if you don't know how to put wheels on, but that is an installation fault, not a part fault. (Unless you believe that a part should prevent human error, which is the reason why all new cars have airbags, tire pressure monitors, and stability control mandatory)
