Question The 45 MPH shake???

wel guys like it says I've got this odd lil front end shake it only happens around 40-45mph, if i go slower than 40 nothin...faster than 45...nada...also happens when i roll onto the brakes but will go away if i push the pedal harder...checked my idler bushings they seem to be ok...but i'll be replacing them soon (cheap insurance). Going to do the front pads soon and repack bearings?....I'm thinking time for a front end overhaul??....any oppinions?

Swap your tires from front to rear and see if that corrects it. Sounds like tire balance.
You could have double problem here. When you step on the brakes does the steering wheel shake back and forth?

does it sorta go away or diminish when you let off of the gas completly? mine used to do that. i always suspected that it was a wheel bearing. does urs come back around 75-80mph?

Do loke rx7doctor says...swap the tires front to rear and rear to front. That told me I had either a bent wheel or a really poorly balanced wheel...haven't researched it yet to see which. Could also be wheel bearings, brake rotors (warped), or steering parts (tie rod ends, steering gear box, idler bushing).

Driveshaft wouldn't make the front end shake though...

Also check your steering and suspension components... Jack the whole front end of the car up and secure it on jack stands.

Grab a tire at 9 and 3 o' clock and try and shake it. Try turning it as if the car were steering, but turn it in very small amounts. See if it moves independantly of the rest of the steering linkage. There should be NO looseness. Have an assistant underneath to look at the tie rods and see if one is loose. The ball in them can wear out and cause this.

Try the same with 6 and 12 o'clock. This checks the ball joints...

If you have the same type of loseness in both directions, try diagonally. It may be a wheel bearing.

You ever get that one shopping cart at the grocery with the shakey front wheel... If you walk like a 90 yr old woman, it'll be fine. Once you pick up the pace it starts shaking, and then if you get into a run, it'll quit again... That's what might be happening.

great analogy there pele....and sorry for the late response guys...i was clean the rats out of my engine bay and adjust my Koni's trying to keep the 225's from bustin up more of my fiberglass widebody..grrrr....I'm gonna try your method there Pele see what i come up with...and to answer your question RX7DOCTOR yes the wheel does shake from side to side both when accelerating and braking...funny though it doesn't seem to be doing it soo much now since i softened the konis in the rear (thought i was firming them up...didn't notice till i drove the car a couple miles and parked and the *** end was sitting about 1.5" lower than before...doh!!)...sooo what do we think now guys?
