This is the ethylene glycol from the cold start reservoir in my 83. I can't imagine that the previous owner ever serviced or topped up the stuff, so I'm pretty sure it's now 43 years old.
The second shot shows the precipitate the collected in the bottom of the tank. It was gooey and granular, like the absorbent stuff in a diaper.
I put it back in the reservoir even though the system is pointless.
Just coming up on 42K, I bought it in 2010 with 28K on it, been driving it only in the good weather here in the northeast.

I was surprised it looks pretty clean. This is the stuff from the cold start plastic tank so maybe there was nothing for the metal protectors to interact with?
Pretty neat to see! Almost every RX-7 that I've bought over the years has has nothing in the Sub Zero Starting Assist reservoir. That coolant is definitely not usable, but its not like it will be used anyways. Very cool to have the original coolant mix back in there!
