3rd Gen motor
One of my good friends had a 3rd gen. rx-7. It was really nice, street ported, hks blow off valve, intercooler etc.... pushing over 300 easy... well... one night he was having eletrical problems and had it towed to a shop. It sat there and no one touched it but in the middle of the night he got a call that it had cought on fire.... so the car was trashed...
He parted off the car and I bought the motor from him for $1700 it was still good we had gone up there together the next day after the fire to turn it over and make sure it wasn't flooded with the 10,000 gallons of water they poured on the car. I spent a few hours taking the motor out this weekend and now it is sitting in my garage.
It is going in my first gen. it is my project motor, Need new turbo (want single HKS) going to run Haltech. I am going to wait until I have everything I need before putting it in. Including external wastegate, blowoff valve (since everything was melted for the most part)
In order to keep the tires on the ground I am going to get the SCCA wide body kit (was planning on it anyways) and I am going to change out the rear diff with a mustang 8.8 and some nice fat tires to go on that.
I am going to start taking of everything on the motor so I can clean it up and maybe give it a nice little paint job. and next i am painting my car dark shadow gey.

An 8.8 would be the best choice. The 9" weighs alot more and the 8.8 will handle all the torque this car will make. Also, the old Fox-body mustangs and T-birds came with a 4X4.5 bolt pattern, so if you have the -SE front suspension, you can use the same bolt pattern for all 4 wheels.

a.k.a TheLatinHeat
So you are putting a 3rd Gen Motor on a 1st Gen body? I am asking if this is correct because one of my questions that I was going to ask was. If a 3rd Gen Motor can fit on a 1st Gen like a 81" model.

I am going to use 8.8 gears... obviously posi. I don't know much about rearends but the shop doing most of the work knows what they are doing.
And yes I am putting a 3rd gen motor in my 1st gen. Mine is an 80. someone suggested to get an 81 and use that one and keep my 80 as a daily driver.
As far as mounting goes that has not been discussed... I would imagine they will be custom mount and I am going to use my 80's tranny
