1,495.00 AUD
Australia Dollars = 1,113.66 USD

I'm hoping the USD gains strength to the AUS after the elections are over and the middle east settles down. I remember when it was .52 USD = 1.00 AUD Those were the good old days. You could pick up this diff for just over 700.00

not true. I've had my 85 GSL turbo 2 conversion for almost 4 years now and have racked up about 15,000 miles and the diff is fine. Just recently i converted to se suspension but my GSL diff was perfectly fine.

Out of curiosity. what kind of torque,hp can the guru diff handle? I"d be interested in it for drag racing and hard launches.

I belive Mike-P-28 and DirectFreak are both running stock -SE diffs currently and make over 300 RWHP with 13B Cosmo swaps. Plans for better ones are in the works, but they at least hold up well enough for now.

Yeah, that is the real question.

I know Bern roached his diff @ buttonwillow roughly a year ago. It was making not happy noises but still driveable, for a while. So that makes me think it is not the ring and pinion necessairly but something in the LSD itself that lets go.

Now that sounds more plausible. Will a Miata torsen handle more? What about machining the plates and slip a couple of extras in? I hear thats a mod you do when you start putting dowm lotsa power.

Been running my TII for almost 4 years on a 100K junkyard SE rearend. No problems yet.
Im in the neighborhood of 300hp.In the lower gears where the torque is at,you get mostly tirespin,so there isnt much stress on the axle.Even with 245's out back, traction is not abundant in 1st and 2nd, for me.
Obviously you shouldnt beat the hell out of the car and you should run good synthetic oil in the rearend.

My small bearing, 82 GSL rearend in my GLC,held up to a torquey little Chevy V-6 for almost 10 years. The RX rearends will take a lot of power,so long as you dont punish them.....

I just upped the boost to 13-15ish psi and I now can spin the tires in 3rd gear going 70mph (just 205's) and have had some pretty bad axle hop along the way and my diff is still holding up. I have a little over 5000 miles on my 13b-re swap.

To echo the question, what brakes on the stock FB rear??

Well,Speedturn twisted the axles on his PP racecar a few weeks ago.
In the pumpkin,I imagine the spider gears would break first, being the smallest. Then maybe the ring and pinion.

And yes,77 to about 82-83,the GLC was RWD and used the same engine as the old Mizers. Many of the RWD GLC's underpinnings were common to the RX-7,although not exactly the same.

I have an -SE diff. out back of my 325hp (I'm sure well over 350ft/lbs)SBC swap and It's doing well. I don't give it to much mercy either. I've had it in (the rear end) for over a year now.

There are plenty of people putting down power on the stock diff. A certain board member (who has been absent) had a roughly 550-600hp engine with a stock Series 2 rear. Now, he said he had to change the axles about every 10-12,000 miles as preventive maintenance... but he also said that he couldn't put full power down until (80 or 100?) mph.

In other words, if you can't hook up, you can't break the gears.

Diff? The diff is not the gearset.

I once asked them that question but I forget the answer. I know it was at least 350 hp, maybe 400. I know they did say you would brake a stock axle before their diff. It's true, you will only brake if you hook up the power. If your running stock tires, you probably won't brake your diff.

One benefit though to using an aftermarket diff, be it Guru, Quaife, or whatever, you should be able to get more power to the ground right? Especially through the twisty's right? That's why I'm planning on one so I hope that's right.
