shouldnt be too hard. The shape of the roof is very similar and also the size. You WILL need some metal sheetwork, its not a bolt on

(hi, Im the guy with the MX-3 sunroof)

Make sure the 2nd gen sunroof works well. They have a high failure rate. My 87 has only 106k on it and the roof needs help closing. Been that way since I bought it with 75k, 6+ years ago.

Personally, I prefer the 1st gen sunroofs, but then mine is an aftermarket popup w/o the crank wheel.

I have both regular and glass roof on the 1st gen and the 2nd gen that roof works perfect, I figured since the car is going to get parted out and I have a friend that owns his own shop and does all the work on all my cars for practicly for free, I guess I should take advantage and do something diffrent, I have not seen any other 1st gen with a power sunroof other than xlr8planet's (which looks great).

Go for it then. Your body guy will need to strip the extra roof framing out of the FC to strengthen the FB's roof.

My 2nd gen broke one of the two drive cables - that was a fun job to fix.... What a complicated mechanism.

Complicated, not impossible.... However, putting a 2nd gen mechanism in a 1st gen will be a substantial amount of work I suspect.

You'd probably have an easier time just finding a 1st gen shell with a factory sunroof. My 83 GS has the factory removable sunroof with the crank ****. I love it. It still works perfectly after 24 years...
