2nd gen power steering in a 1st Gen RX-7

I have an 84 GSL-SE that is armstrong steering right now. I am looking to put power steering into it, as it is my daily driver. I have a power steering setup from an 86 RX-7 GXL (pump, lines, etc.). Doeds anyone have any ideas of what issues I might run into, and any suggestions on how to install this into my 84 RX-7??

Power steering pump

Did your pump fail or did someone just take it out? As far as the S4/S5 pumps that is a good question. I have a SE and have a S5 p/s pump lying around, i'll take a look at it this weekend and see what is involved. I would probably thing that the bracket from the S4 would have to be used and maybe a fabrication of lines or just the ones from the S4.

Unless the GSL-SE had power steering, you will need a steering gearbox from an 84/85 model. The 86 had rack and pinion, didn't it?
Of course, you could convert to a R/P setup, but that would require lots of fabrication.

My 84 GSL-SE is armostrong, with a steering box as it stands.
I am trying to make it have power steering instead of armstrong

I can rob anything I need out of the 86 to make this work.
I know the 86 has a wider wheelbase. and therefore potentiakl problems for the narrower first gen

Took the PS pump and lines out of my '85. Doesn't need it. Just fill the steering box and connect the two outlets. Works great.

i'm doing the same thing kinda. i have a power steering box on my 84 gsl-se. when i did my first engine swap i pulled the pump, when i set it down the pully and the staft fell out of the pump.... so the pump was dead. i have a 88 PS pump. the problem is that the PS 2nd gens had speed sensitive steering. the high preasure line bolts up, the low presure line you need to by a new hose and put that on. there is a 3rd line on top of the PS that bleeds of the preasure as speed rises. it take's a steering cpu found under the steering column to run it on the 2nd gens. i just took the line off and put a bolt with some rtv on it in the hole(it's a preasure line and looks like the lines coming off a brake master cylinder). i'm putting the pump on today. i'll let you know how it goes and i'll take pictures when i'm all done.

P/s

You will have to get the Se gear box to make your p/s work. As far as speed sensitive steering, the Se came with it also stock and has the cpu under the dash.
