2GCDFIS Installed

Finally got the 2GCDFIS installed. I will try to post some pics later this week. I removed the bulky aluminum ignitor housing and remounted the coil pack on the metal bracket. I sawed off and ground down the four posts off of the aluminum housing and used them for spacers, mounting the the them with sheet metal screws from the back side of the bracket, screwed the coil on to the posts and wired the resistor inline on the + side of the original coil lead. I used some heat sink on the back side of the resistor and used a plastic tie to mount it on the bracket between it and the coil. Ran the - wire from the coil lead to the - side of the 2nd gen coil, swapped out the coil and plug leads from the trailing coil and dizzy to the leading plugs. I changed out the leading plugs to the NKG BUR7EQ which are made for the direct ignition 2nd gen. Seems to idle a lot smoother with a little quicker pickup and less backfire and seems to burn a little cleaner. Haven't checked the fuel mileage yet, but is likely to be a little better. Fires up instantly and smooths out on a cold start much quicker.

Glad to hear you got this done. Did the guy you bought the coil from help you, or did you do this one on your own?

I'm looking forward to pics. I'm cleaning up my engine bay, replacing the fusible links with a fuse box and thinking of ways to make this mess of wires look a little neater. Your sounds neater.

I ended up doing it myself. I just thought the aluminum housing took up too much room and wasn't needed. That's why I removed the resistor and mounted it between the bracket and coil. The only reason I used heat sink is because someone told me the resistor usually got a little heat buildup. What would be best is if a guy custom made a nice bracket. I will try to get some pics posted sometime this week. Here is a picture of my car and engine bay. Could still use some cleanup.
