2gcdfis ?
Ok, got my 2nd gen coil. And I did search...don't flame. Here's the ?'s
I understand that I hook up the - wire from the stock coil to the black wire that sticks out of the coil which I wired together. The one thing that wasn't clear was the + wire from the stock coil. Do I just put this on the + side of the coil? Or does it need to be wired up somewhere else. The other question is will the stock 1st gen wires fit on the 2nd gen coil, or do I need to buy 2nd gen wires? Other than that, I think I've got everything set.
Jeff20B, if you read this, have you had any luck on using the J109s to set off the 2nd gen ignitor?

I personally would hold off for a bit and then do the transistor trick circuit (trigger the 2nd gen igniter from the J-109). I am sure that you have probably seen the thread
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/transistor-trick-2gcdfis-411312/
According to Jeff, the 2nd gen igniter produces a much more intense spark from the 2nd gen coil than the J-109 firing the 2nd gen coil does. Based on my testing, I would have to agree. I have not fired the 2nd gen coil directly from the J-109, but bench testing the transistor trick circuit and the 2nd gen igniter/coil assembly, the spark is much more intense than the 1st gen setup.
I was delayed in getting the 2nd gen coil (seller was slow shipping) and I killed my leading igniter by hooking it up backwards. My trailing igniter doesn't work very well, so I am waiting for jayroc to send me a couple igniters. If he sent them out, I will have the circuit installed and in the testing phase by next weekend. Once installed, I'll borrow my friends camera and take some pics.

Sounds like I should wait then. I'm not very "electronically intelligent" so I hope this is a fairly easy hookup. I suppose a simple wiring diagram would help me out. But I'm not on top of all the electrical jargon. But, as soon as you guys figure something out with the 2nd gen ignitor firing the coil, let me know. I'll just stay stock for now and put this coil cover back on. Good thing I read this before I started cutting the ignitor off.

I am hoping once we get some testing in that we could have some printed circuit boards made up. We could either do a kit or a pre-built kind of setup. If you don't want to wait until that point, I could draw up how I have the components layed out/connected or I could put a circuit together for you. I have all of the parts except for the voltage regulator and I still need to find some sort of box to mount the circuit in. I am going to be trading jayroc a circuit in exchange for the igniters that he is giving me.
This setup throws some really long purple sparks. Much further and more intense than the 1st gen coil does. Should be a nice improvement. Once I have it in I'll take some pics.

I don't have a 1st gen and haven't hooked up 2GCDFIS on an engine yet, but when I eventually do get a 1st gen (whenever that'll be), I'll most likely go with 2GCDFIS and the transistor trick because it looks like the best choice in that engine bay. For instance, DLIDFIS is easier in an early engine bay where the coils are close to the engine, and an MSD is a big clunky box in any engine bay.

Would you go with a step hotter 2nd gen plug or stick with stock? Right now I'm running BR7EQ-14's instead of the BR8's. I figured going up 1 heat range couldn't hurt any.

TurboSE: You looking for info on this (plug heat) or more about the circuit itself?

Turbo SE, Try these to start. If you want to see if you can find more, search for "transistor trick":
