With regular mix you use one ounce per galllon but you should get some of the rotary pre mix made for our enigines and you use 1/2 an ounce per galloon.

Ditto on the 1 ounce per gallon - I use Red Line 2 cylce race oil of which my rotary mechanic recommended.

Oh yeah, this is required when the oil meetering pump is disabled. I have my disabled so it is required that I use 2 cycle premix oil when pumping gas. Not 100% sure but I don't think you can do both(have a oil meetering pump and usine 2 cycle oil premixed into the gas). I hear that the 2 cycle oil premix with the gasoline is better for the engine as it is cleaner than the oil the oil metering pump injects into the intake to lubricate the rotors. Both are doing the same thing - except the 2 cycle oil is cleaner and makes it so that there is not as much carbon build up on the rotors.

Disable the OMP and run premix. Your engine will thank you. I'll post pictures of a 50000 mile engine disassembled that has been run on premix since built. VERY clean compared to OMP operation even with 11:1 AFRs and as low as 10:1 for cruising. Even cracked an apex seal which stayed in the slot on the rotor and BARELY affected the housing and for all I know it could have gone thousands of miles with the apex seal like that. The rest of the seals came came RIGHT out of the rotor and look NEW. I'll NEVER run the OMP again. The other benefit (if your orings and gaskets are new) is running synthetic motor oil in the oilpan. I'll post pictures of the engine that lived a premix life and the one with the OMP life.

I don't think it hurts to leave the OMP running while you premix. Only problems I can think of are plug fouling (reported by others, but never happened to me) and varnish buildup from the sump oil (but MMO should get rid of it).

I recently switched to Idemitsu ($77 a case with shipping) for all 4 vehicles and hope that it's even better than 2-cycle. We shall see.

Maybe I should disable my OMP and run Premix. Is it a lot more expensive?

depens on wether you have an aftermarket carb setup (1st gen owner like myself) and have the OMP wired to be on full at all times. if that is the case you will burn quite a good deal of oil at all times and if you are using any type of quality oil and having to add a quart every fill up, then it probably evens out cost wise to premix versus OMP. By eliminating the omp you remove a possible failure point, engine stays cleaner, lubricates better, and has that good minty ether smell (if you pre-mix with Marvel Mystery Oil). Depending on how much the premix you are using costs it may be cheaper. My tank is just over 13 gallons so I put 14oz of premix to be safe (I prefer MMO). It costs about $10 to buy a gallon of MMO (128oz in a gallon) so the gallon is good for 9 fill-ups at the pump. You need to be good about getting in the habit of adding it before filling up to help it mix better with the fuel. Their are some arguments versus MMO and 2-stroke so just use whatever you feel safe using (MMO smells better and works just as well in my opinion LOL!).

This is what i have decided to go with. 1/2 ounce a galloon. 32 ounces with a 14 galloon tank appx. you use 7 ounces. so you you get 4.5 full tanks to a $5.00 quart. thats only about a dollar a tank more each fill up and a much safer cleane why to go.

Rotorsports Racing Price
Idemitsu Racing Rotary Fuel Lube (Premix)
(Synthetic Blend) $5.00 a quart / $53.95 a case of 12qts (better value!)

Designed For Use In Gasoline Engines Only
Improved Sealing Performance
Provides Additional Wear Protection For Apex Seals, Side Seals, etc.
Keeps Fuel Injectors Clean For Reduced Maintenance
Minimizes Exhaust Port Clogging
Reduces Friction
Application: 1/2 oz. Per 1 Gallon of Gasoline
A special blend of base oils reduces deposits and subsequent exhaust port clogging. As a result, your rotary will maintain the power at which it was designed.

Special detergent/dispersant additives keep you fuel injectors clean to reduce maintenance.

Provides additional lubrication for apex and side seals to increase seal life and increase efficiency of engine.

Special additives allow for better sealing of the chamber, creating greater efficiency and more power.

1 ounce [US, liquid] = 29.57 milliliters
1 gallon [US, liquid] = 3.785 liters

according to
http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm

So divide one into the other and you get:

7.8 mL / L which is basically a uselessly small measurement so

Since we have a 60L tank: 468mL/Tank

So basically half a litre of two stroke oil per tank.

If you don't tend to tank up, just round to 10mL per litre. The little extra won't kill ya.

Jon
