1st Gen Swap With Rx7

Hi, I have a 1984 MazdaRX7, and I want to use this car as my weekend warrior instead of my mustang....

So here it is..

1984 RX7, and My goal is Low '12 second passes in the quarter mile..

This is the modifications/Swap I am considering...

'91 13B turbo
Mazda Racing 3 MM Apex Seals
Mazda Racing Downpipe
Mazda Racing Turbo Piping Kit
Greddy Boost Controller
T04 with a P-Trim exhaust and 1.15 A/R , and a 60-1 compressor

That's what I am considering, but I was told it would be much easier, to just pop in a 12ATUrbo (japan) What is the best route to go, and how hard is this swap to do?

Someone please help, I am new to these forums..

Yeah, you might also need TII tranny, ford 9 inch rear and I believe a custom length driveshaft, stand alone ecu, upgrade rear drums to disc. Im sure sooner or later someone will chime in with other things.

As far as 13B turbo vs 12A turbo, Ive never seen a 12A turbo. They were made, but never imported to the US.

If you run a TO4, you won't be able to use an off the shelf downpipe.

Also 2mm seals are preferable to 3mm... the 2mm seal better and can rev higher, the only "problem" with 2mm is detonation will break them. Detonation will also break 3mm, it will also break rear housings, it will also cave rotors in... so basically no matter what you do to "beef it up" something else will break when you detonate (weakest link keeps moving on up the chain) so if you just ensure you don't detonate you'll be cool.

I'd hang out in the single turbo/rotary performance sections, as well as the engine management forums (you WILL need alternate engine management like a Haltech or the like) as you'll get better answers there.

However if you go a lot lighter and go with a nice big bridge or peripheral port 13B you can get low 12's with no turbo! or less lightening + a small bridge/big street port with nitrous. Your HP goal should be about 300-320hp, which is nothing for a turbo engine.
