Or he just did the ATF/MMO treatment and was just driving around getting it cleared out.

I used some Seafoam in the gas tank a couple of weeks ago. No issues until I got on the freeway. Whenever I let off the gas, I would leave an incredibly dense white cloud behind me. Traffic actually had to slow way down due to visibility issues! lol. No issues with a fresh tank of gas though....

A tired engine will do that whenever the throttle is abruptly closed (high RPM shifts.)
The extremely low manifold pressure(vacuum) caused by the throttles closing while the engine is trying to breath a lot, will pull oil past the rotor oil seals and cause the smoking.

you're wrong about the mmo treatment cause it would've smoked at idle also...

yea my old 85' used to blow a cloud of smoke if I missed my shift and went like past 8,000 rpms, or sometimes if I would have powershifted a small puff was left behind, seemed only going into second gear today.
