1st Gen flip light issue

I am new to this site, and looking for some advice.
If any one can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

I picked up a '79 RX-7 about 2 years ago and have just put a bit of cash into a new paint job, candy apple, looks great. I am convinced that due to all of the sanding and washing prior to paint that some thing was shorted in the flip lights. They worked fine before the paint job.

Here's the scoop,,, the lights lift and work well but only one goes back down. I have to pop the hood and turn the motor manually.
I have tried cleaning the contacts, but I am sure I am missing something,,, help!!

Looks like I just missed a great weekend in Ottawa, for the eastern Canadian members. Hope all went well...

check the wiring between the left strut tower and the light that stays up. When both are stuck in the up position, it means the fusable link to the lights is blown; with one up, it means the wire meant to carry the 'down' signal isn't.

I had this same problem when I was messing around with the passenger side headlight cover trying to take those damn screws out. I ended up having to drill them out, then retaping the holes, which I broke the tap off in one of the holes, then some more tugging and pulling and finally got the welded on nut off. I bolted it back on with a bolt and nut. After that, the headlight wouldn't go down, but it fixed itself after a few times of going up and down. Moral of the story, check all your connections, and check the linkage from the motor to the light housing. It could be binding just enough to not let it go down.

still not working

Guys, I tried a few things over the weekend without success.

I switched what I call the "solenoid" just prior to the activator motor, and the same problem persisted.

The driver side light goes up and down, but the passanger light only goes up, I have to put it down manually. If I turn the electric motor a few turns and flip the light switch fast it will go down, but does not appear to get a signal when it is open fully.

Does anyone have a recommendation, maybe a pic to point me in the right direction. Somewhat new at the RX handy work... thanks jim

There should be three spades on the connector - positive up, positive down, and ground. disconnect the connector and see if the positve down spade 9or female side) is corroded. If all looks good, hook up a test light or volt meter to the harness side of that terminal and have someone click the lights ot the down position for you. See if power is going through that wire to power the actuator for headlight-down.

I Would Recomend To Check All Wirinig On Older Cars Wiring Will Brake Internally Or The Motor Could Just Be Going Out On That Perticular Side.
