GA 1st attempt oil leakof death "oil catcher"

since my 83 leaks oil like a stuck pig. I've been thinking on how to catch the oil.
This idea seems to be working. when I shut down and pop the hood. no more oil smoke wafts out. I ran some cotton clothes line around the Mazda stamp on the engine were the o ring leaks . The oil travels down the wick to a can , instead of under the engine and to the red hot exhaust pipe. one end of the wick runs past the M and the other end runs next to the A. Maybe the pics help explain. Sc

Keep us posted.

Why didn't Mazda think of this? Might be because of the liability issues....Oily cotton cord + hot engine bay = Fire hazard.

Please carry a fire extinguisher

Yep! its genius. the cord running by the M seems to be doing all the work. the cord at the A will direct oil that slips by. I did jam a rag in there to hold the clothes line in place. I may try some wire and alligator clips to hold the wicks in place. I still have a lot ofg left over oil I'm burning off that is coming mid car. Front car is way less smoky. Sc

"Trail rated?" That's nothing: How about "combat tested?"

They plug bullet holes just dandy.

I lol'd a little. when i bought my scout II there was a package of tampons in it, and i asked the guy why, the truck had a small leak on the oil pan and instead of buying a new gasket he made a little wire bracket to hold those over them kind of like that picture. his whole family had rock crawler jeeps so maybe that's why he did it. ironically a package of tampons cost a little more than the gasket........
