1985 GSL - Torque specs correct ?

Hi everyone,

I just recently took off the entire intake manif/carb as well as the exhaust manifold to replace both gaskets. I used mazda oem gaskets and replaced the o-rings and have things bolted back on now. I haven't tightened things down hard yet and want to ensure everything is done to proper torque spec. In the Haynes manual I found these torque specs and am wondering if they are correct for these parts.

Here are the torque specs in the book :

For the 4 nuts that tighten the exhaust manifold to the engine do I use the "thermal reactor" spec of 33 to 40 ft-lb ? what about the section of the exhaust manifold that connects to the rest of the exhaust via two nuts that thread onto studs from the exhaust manifold ? 33 to 40 for those as well ?

Finally the intake/carb setup has 4 bolts and 2 nuts to secure it to the engine, should I use "inlet manifold" and torque to 14 to 19 ft-lb ?

I am very worried about snapping things so I want to be sure, I saw the forum had torque spec threads for 2nd and 3rd gen but not 1st that I could find. Sorry if this is a common thread topic but thanks for reading.

I remember at the end of the Haynes book there's a supplemental chapter for 81+ cars, but those are correct. You can check them against factory manuals here

Don't over think the rest of the exhaust, they just have to be tight enough to not allow air to escape. Torque ratings are given for the manifolds because you really don't want to snap a bolt on the engine.

edit: Actually, if you feel more comfortable with a number, there should be sections in the factory and Haynes manuals that give a torque rating based on bolt sizes.

Earlier today I just put on a new exhaust header on my 82. Torque spec given from racing beat is 25 ft/lbs. I tightened the rest of my exhaust system to the same spec and have no leaks. This is with all new gaskets.

I appreciate the replies folks. Okay sounds good I will torque to the specs in the book and before I do so I will look over chapter 13. Indeed it does have info about the 85 cars but it didn't seem to have a sheet with all the torque specs however I might have went too fast.
I'll get this torqued correctly before I put coolant back in and try starting the car.

Thanks everyone !
