I am currently trying to replace my exhaust manifold with a racing beat header on my 91 fc. I took off the two bolts towards the bottom. One of the screws came out completley. So now I have one screw in at the bottom and one screw out, and still cant get the dern thing off. I am assuming that there are screws at the top but I cant get that aluminum looking plate to come off. So if anyone knows what the heck im talking about, could you lend a hand.

Yes there are 4 nuts that hold the exhaust manifold on there. There are a few 10mm bolts that hold the heat shields on there. You can either get a new stud to replace the one that came out or you can thread another nut on the one that is already on there, that will allow you to screw it back in, then just take the outer nut off.

thanks one sweet7 but how do I get to the other bolts. Do I have to remove something from the engine block itself. and I removed the bottom 10mm bolts, and I think three of the top ones but it is still on their. A little more info and I should be good.

go the the online factory service manual and look up exhaust manifold removal
I ripped the Shields of my S4 getting at those Top manifold bolts..I also removed the actuators to get a good shot at them.
and yes,the nuts will sometimes take the studs with them, when you Loosen them off.
you can always get replacement exhaust studs,Auto parts store, bring in an old one and match it up..they are metric.
I used the same ones, but I had to use washers,as the manifold was Thicker than the Header Flange.

I think there are 2 heatshield bolts on top and 2 on the side, maybe another one or two hidden somewhere else I can't say for sure. Just pull till it comes off since you can't reuse it anyway. You should be able to get the top two manifold nuts off with a socket extension and some finesse.
