From the very limited info you have presented, I'd say go for it.

Of course, I always say that when someone asks if they should buy a SA/FB, so take that into consideration.

Hmmm... named two of the most nightmareish things an RX-7 could have in its lifetime....

old man not driving it, not revving it up = carbon (bad)

18 year old that can't drive a standard = riding clutch, over-revving, hard on engine...

I really don't think it'd be a problem though, and you'll get many years out of the car yet most likely. Just do the regular checks and maintenance before you start driving it:

fuel filter
air filter
oil filter
new oil
rad flush
new hoses and belts where applicable
timing

These are great cars, just remember that they're 20 year old cars, so they'll need some new parts to make them really reliable, just like any 20 year old car.

holy crap go for it. it'll be worth it, but to add to what keaponlaffen said; check ALL IGNITION RELATED PARTS! especially the ignitors. use NGK plugs (search for what kind is best). other than that, GET THAT BABY! WOOHOOOOOOOOO! and show some pics

I got my 85 12a with perfect body/paint, and interior for $200.. She showed 120,000 on the odometer and only had stuck side seals. New apex's and oil o-rings and a minor half-bridge port job and she's happy again!.
